I recall driving a 110 MEWP down a country lane at about 45-50 mph, pretty open straight road. Little old dear in a little japanese tin box comes straight out in front of me at about 100 yards or less. Cue me slamming on and the whole thing lurching up as the weight transferred forwards, luckily she did get out of the way sharpish but not before I got close enough to have a good look! I couldn't believe it, no way did she not see me. I do think some people do see a Landrover and think "I don't want to be stuck behind that" and so take the risk. This kind of thing has happened to me many times over the years. On the other side of the coin I have had to do overtaking a few times in my 1-Ton which as anyone into Land Rovers will know, was not exactly renowned for impressive road speeds... 2011 110 USW

It gives me a huge amount of pleasure on the rare occasions where I can overtake something with tractor.
Generally the roads round here are too narrow so you just end up being stuck behind lost tourists or old people.

I imagine it must be a weird feeling to have a tractor catch you up on a road.

It's not just a Land Rover thing allthough I've had my own fair share especially when towing. People have this thing in their head when they reach a junction of "I'm not getting stuck behind that" syndrome, sometimes they make that split decision when they get to the junction, other times they'll faff about thinking about it and then pull out. Often the latter are the worst as they pull out and take their own time to get up to speed. Driving a lorry is bad especially if you've got a "live" load be it a liquid or even livestock which move, that can cause problems!
Even driving a tractor finds these "Knobs of the Roads", some tractors these days aren't slouches but people still think that they only do 12mph and driven by the local yokel with a piece of straw in their mouth. I used to drive a self propelled sprayer for much of the year, being a hydrostatic drive it wasn't actually fitted with brakes as the hydraulic motors either turn or they stop. Bowling along the road at 25mph with 3500litres of water on an 8 tonne machine is no lightweight, the drive is controlled by a lever where the further you push it forward the faster you go, to slow down or stop the closer you put the lever to the stop position, to do an emergency stop you place your feet on the front screen, throw the lever into full reverse and pray! What makes things even more hairy is if you have a part full tank, yes there are some baffles in the tank but they aren't that effective as the less obstacles in the tank the easier it is to clean to cut down the risk of cross contamination, a major factor when applying different chemicals to different crops.
Then there is the hundredweight of paperwork that goes with the job but thats a different gripe Thumbs Up

Growing up through decimalisation and metrication was "fun" for some of us. Should have put 750gallons down as well instead of the 3500l. I still look at areas and think in acres, measurements I see in feet and inches and I'm a damn site more accurate guessing weights in lbs.
Yep, I'm an Old Fart Thumbs Up
