2.2 2014 110 van Self-engaging diff lock
I've had a problem with my van today (March 2014, 2.2, 110, mechanically unmodified or tuned, never used off road, under 9500 miles).

About a year back, having earlier backed in, I drove forwards out of a parking space and thought the steering felt odd. Then there was an almighty 'clunk' and I lost drive. I moved the low/high lever a bit, the drive came back and it has been okay ever since, until this lunchtime.

I backed into a parking space (at the same shop!) with no problem and went to the shop. When I drove off again ten minutes later, I had the same odd feel to the steering. This time there was no clunk. I didn't register what it was until about 1/4 of a mile later when I noticed the diff lock light was on on the dash.

I got where I was going (another 1/4 mile) and had a play about with the diff lock lever. It was sitting quite happily in high range and not over to the left, yet the diff lock was clearly engaged. After a bit of moving backwards and forwards, I finally managed to get out of diff lock and it's been okay all afternoon.

I've just had a play at home and although I think I can engage the diff lock, the light only comes on sporadically, flickers, and goes out again. The van's still got a year's warranty left, so it will be up to the dealer, but I wondered if anyone could advise please what might be happening.

At no time when this has happened have I touched the diff lock lever, but I reversed into the parking space both times with a lot of left hand lock on the steering, and then drove forwards out of it with a lot of right hand lock, if that's of any consequence.

Sounds like the linkage needs adjusting. Steve.

I don't think there is anyway to adjust the throw on the TDCi's, the pivot is fixed

Just to update this, I told my dealer about it during the van's second service last Friday. They had a look and reckon it's due to some damage to one of the propshafts which is missing a grease nipple and had worn.

I'm puzzled about this as they were supposed to have sorted the grease nipple last year and I can't see how the problem would be caused by a duff UJ, but I'll let them do whatever it is and see if it helps.

I'll update this again after the work is completed (mid April).

Dredging up my old topic (please read the first post), this happened to the van again today, same shop chain, different branch! I love Aldi, too.

I reversed into a parking space on my left, drove out half an hour later to the right, and diff lock had magically engaged itself. I had to drive for about a mile before I could find somewhere to stop to fiddle about with it and eventually managed to get it to disengage.

The lever was in the high range position over to the right, and I've not touched it for months.

I think I'm going to ring Land Rover up tomorrow and see what they say, as Sturgess's have been unable to get it to happen when they've had it to look at.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

As I can see from the workshop-manual (section 308-07B), the linkage to transfer-box and switch for difflock can/has to be adjusted (as Steve already mentioned). There exists a special tool (308-711 LOCKING TOOL HIGH/LOW SELECTOR) as well. If I were you, I would make the dealer to start with that instead reducing the problem to a missing nipple (!). (That has to be fixed as well of course).

I don't believe that a damaged propshaft could be causing your transfer box autonomously to engage the difflock, there is simply no logical connection.

A poorly adjusted linkage, or a failed or sticking detent on the difflock selector, or a combination of both, would be my initial suspicion.

I completely agree. I think the dealer was just clutching at straws as they couldn't get the blessed thing to do it while it was with them.

I'm not going to manage to call them today now, but I'll do so next week and keep this updated as and when.

Storytellers report from wireless cash systems interacting with the Puma 10AS i.e. the transmitter plip does not work near restaurants, ice cream shops where such a system is installed.

If there was a way to access the ECU such wieless systems could possibly influence the diff lock light on the dash. Although hardly probable.

But wireless systems cannot physically interact with the diff lock , from my point of view at least.

Therefore I'd say: don't leave your children and pets playing inside your Land Rover while you're shopping Laughing

So would you like to express that driving the PUMA with AS10 is helpful when you pass throug a diet or is it the opposite? Mr. Green
