Sounds like the linkage needs adjusting. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. I don't think there is anyway to adjust the throw on the TDCi's, the pivot is fixed Dave Dave |

Since it seems to happen at the same place, did you lock it while you were visiting?

Just to update this, I told my dealer about it during the van's second service last Friday. They had a look and reckon it's due to some damage to one of the propshafts which is missing a grease nipple and had worn.
I'm puzzled about this as they were supposed to have sorted the grease nipple last year and I can't see how the problem would be caused by a duff UJ, but I'll let them do whatever it is and see if it helps. I'll update this again after the work is completed (mid April). |

Dredging up my old topic (please read the first post), this happened to the van again today, same shop chain, different branch! I love Aldi, too.
I reversed into a parking space on my left, drove out half an hour later to the right, and diff lock had magically engaged itself. I had to drive for about a mile before I could find somewhere to stop to fiddle about with it and eventually managed to get it to disengage. The lever was in the high range position over to the right, and I've not touched it for months. I think I'm going to ring Land Rover up tomorrow and see what they say, as Sturgess's have been unable to get it to happen when they've had it to look at. Has anyone else had the same problem? |

As I can see from the workshop-manual (section 308-07B), the linkage to transfer-box and switch for difflock can/has to be adjusted (as Steve already mentioned). There exists a special tool (308-711 LOCKING TOOL HIGH/LOW SELECTOR) as well. If I were you, I would make the dealer to start with that instead reducing the problem to a missing nipple (!). (That has to be fixed as well of course).

I don't believe that a damaged propshaft could be causing your transfer box autonomously to engage the difflock, there is simply no logical connection.
A poorly adjusted linkage, or a failed or sticking detent on the difflock selector, or a combination of both, would be my initial suspicion. |

I completely agree. I think the dealer was just clutching at straws as they couldn't get the blessed thing to do it while it was with them.
I'm not going to manage to call them today now, but I'll do so next week and keep this updated as and when. Thanks very much for the help folks. |

Storytellers report from wireless cash systems interacting with the Puma 10AS i.e. the transmitter plip does not work near restaurants, ice cream shops where such a system is installed.
If there was a way to access the ECU such wieless systems could possibly influence the diff lock light on the dash. Although hardly probable. But wireless systems cannot physically interact with the diff lock , from my point of view at least. Therefore I'd say: don't leave your children and pets playing inside your Land Rover while you're shopping |

So would you like to express that driving the PUMA with AS10 is helpful when you pass throug a diet or is it the opposite? |
