Blithering wipers....bang and now they've stopped mid way.
Grrrr. Any thoughts on where to start looking for ideas on what went wrong? |

if both have stopped but motor runs then the perhaps the teeth on the gear wheel or the pinion or the cable rack has broken, they are exactly the same arrangement as the old mini ones easy and cheep to fix but hard to get to DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Just had a quick look. No noise so motor ain't working. Hopefully just a fuse but I doubt it. Sounded like mechanism seized....was moving slowly prior to bang? Do the mechanisms typically need lubricating - if so from where?
Had park switch replaced before so hoping it ain't that again? |

If the fuse has popped your wheel boxes have probably seized up. For the sake of £50 I'd replace them with genuine ones. Ray

I think Black Wolf did an excellent write up on how to lift one end of the dash away to access it all and do the repairs.
At least no one can claim you're imagining this one! Keith |

thanks BW. motor has thermal protection?
does that mean it has it's own fuse? what needs to be done to reset / fix once the thermal protection has cut in? many thanks, |

No, I can't remember the details but it stops before it spontaneosly combusts if the wipers are stuck to the screen, or, as happens more commonly on a Defender, the wheelboxes have jammed. If it didn't, even if you turn the wipers off, the motor will still be trying to park them if the ignition is on.
No reset is necessary, all you need to do is unjam or unstick the wipers. There is a fuse as well, of course, to pretect against electical malfunction. |

£150 ish for genuine motor and wheel boxes isn't too bad really when you think of how much you've blown on imaginary problems. At least this is real. Ray
