Whip the top plate off of the gear selector (the whole gearstick will come off)
The LT77's used to suffer from the grub screw working loose on the selector shaft meaning you lost all gears. "simply" move it back to the correct position, apply some locktite to the grub screw and do it up tight. |

I don't think I can get it off because the transmission tunnel is very close to the front of the gear stick? I'll have a look tomorrow anyway, she isn't going anywhere anytime soon so I may as well rip the transmission tunnel off. Would this screw also result in it being stuck in reverse? 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Yes, if the box was in reverse when the grub screw slipped off position.

Okay, do I have to take the whole top off or can I just remove the small plate the gearstick goes through? Will attempt it this afternoon anyway as I really can't afford to go to a garage about it! 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon
