DCPU Weight
Anyone know the weight of a 110 DCPU puma? I looked in the online manual and it only seems to list the HCPU.
I need to upgrade the springs and am trying to find the standard weight so I can deduct it from the actual weight to see what I'm carrying extra!

Had mine on the weighbridge at 2100kg with full tank of fuel, rear pvc canopy, boosts with 255/85 tyres, r&t sliders and a few other addons.

It is a td5 but doubt there is too much diffencene with the puma. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

Had mine on the weigh bridge at 2650k with nothing special extra on.
So what was it from the factory?

According to LR in 2015 the kerb weight of an ex-factory 110 Tdci DCPU is 2042kg which corresponds to an unladen weight of 1910kg.

Figures based on 2015 LR specs:

90 HT Kerb 1771 => ULW 1650
90 PU kerb 1740 => ULW 1740
90 SW Kerb 1887 => ULW 1887

110 HT Kerb 1955 => ULW 1823
110 PU Kerb 1917 => ULW 1785
110 SW Kerb 2062 => ULW 1930
110 UW Kerb 2062 => ULW 1930
110 DCPU Kerb 2042 => ULW 1910
110 HCPU Kerb 1938 => ULW 1806

130 DCHCPU Kerb 2149 => ULW 2017

So it seems I'm carrying an extra 600k or so without any goods!
Looks like I'm already using the right springs at 500k +2"
But they are so hard!
Might have to have a rethink...

Is there a typo with 90 HT & SW (kerb = ULW)?

Yes, there is of course, my apologies!

Corrected figures below:-

Figures based on 2015 LR specs:

90 HT Kerb 1771 => ULW 1650
90 PU kerb 1740 => ULW 1619
90 SW Kerb 1887 => ULW 1766

110 HT Kerb 1955 => ULW 1823
110 PU Kerb 1917 => ULW 1785
110 SW Kerb 2062 => ULW 1930
110 UW Kerb 2062 => ULW 1930
110 DCPU Kerb 2042 => ULW 1910
110 HCPU Kerb 1938 => ULW 1806

130 DCHCPU Kerb 2149 => ULW 2017

The ULW figures are calculated from LR's KW figures by subtracting the weight of a 75kg driver and the 90% fuel payload that LR includes, and makes allowance for the differeing fuel tank sizes across the range.

If you search for the defender brochure as a PDF then there are the official weight and dimension figures in there for the commonly available configurations
Thumbs Up

Back on the weigh bridge today and still not fully loaded it came in at 2720kg.
So it looks like I'm carrying on a daily basis 680ish kilos. If I carry more, like another 60 or so kilos the ride is so much better, it sways abit but much nicer and still doesn't sit down.
I'm not sure what springs are on at the moment but I know they are plus 2". Going by the colour, bright blue, I think they may be bearmach HD plus 500kg versions.. I spoke to bearmach to see if they have any serial numbers or the like on them to be told there might be but it will be small and probably hidden under the retainer.
So my dilemma is that I want to carry less but stop my teeth being rattled out. If I completely empty the non essentials it feels like the truck would shake itself to bits on anything but smooth Tarmac!
If these are plus 500kg springs they seem to be overkill with almost 700kg! Do I risk going down to +300kg ones?
I also need to take the shocks into account, at the moment I have terrafirma +2", they might be too harsh in combination with the hard springs.
Anyone tried the progressive springs? I guess that would be the ideal solution but expensive to just buy and try to find the right weight.
I know this subject has been done to death but any help appreciated.. Thumbs Up

Thanks. ( I noticed being a 90 SW owner).
Here's an interesting one I saw today on a car park sign.
No coaches or commercial vehicles. Definition of a commercial vehicle is one adapted for the carriage of goods and with an unladen weight greater than 1800Kg.
I didn't see any Defenders in there, but it wasn't especially big.

Thats because the springs are rated for

a) a fully loaded truck
b) towing up to 3.5 Tonnes

softening the prings for comfort will compromise the vehicle when it IS used on occasions to its full capacity. Especially when towing 3rd party non LR modified suspension is potentially etremely dangerous!

You honestly think some third party party suppliers with no vehicle Contruction & Use testing requrements knows better than the OEM how to modify the suspension safely?

It scares me when I think of all the back street mechanic modified cars that there are running around

Just my opinion.

btw my 110 SW hit 2200kg on the ASM weighbridge last Saturday, must have been the Jack Russel inside! He who dies with the most toys wins Smile

How much more loaded do I need to be? Isn't over 600k enough?
I would use OEM springs if they worked, the reason they were changed is because with less than I carry now they were on the bump stops, even the OEM hd ones. So what would you suggest?

Original factory springs on a DCPU are design to work up to a GVW of 3045kg, so I really can't understand why your vehicle was on the stops with only around half its permitted payload on board.

My DC is on standard springs and I have no problem running at GVW.

Maybe it was all the towing a heavy trailer as well that knackered them, maybe I'll start again from scratch with OEM hd and see what happens. Anyone know what colour I need?

EDIT
Just found it, Purple and brown part number RKB 101111

So, starting from scratch with the rear suspension, almost, swapped the springs today back to standard brown / purple, got a pair of NTO from Keith Gott. It was a bit low with the new ones in so put in a 40mm lift to bring it back to where it was.. Now she's sitting pretty again.

Only done 20 miles or so but so far much softer ride and it actually leans slightly round corners now! My daily carry of 650 or so kg doesn't look out of place as before but is so much more comfortable and I'm hoping that when I do really load her up the progressive nature of the springs will keep her level.. Time will tell but so far I'm happy Thumbs Up

Why do these little jobs always throw up more work? Shocks were "welded" to the top mounts so had to cut them off, so new shocks, took the mounts off to get the welded inner bush off and once cleaned up they were so corroded they needed shimming out temporarily until the new top mounts arrive.. So what I saved on the springs and some got spent anyway Rolling Eyes
