Swapping transfer box gears without dropping box?
Does anyone know if it's possible to swap the 1.4 gears in an LT230 for the 1.222's without entirely removing the transfer box? Or more accurately without having to strip out my interior to get to the top of the box

you need to remove intermediate gear,to swoop it over and this can only be cared out with box removed from the land rover as intermediate gear has shaft that can only removed with the LT230 box removed from main gear box
video is for type T lt230 box

You shouldn't need to strip out the interior to remove the transfer box, everything can be done from underneath.

I saw a few tutorials and they seemed to remove the transmission tunnel cover and the floor but on second viewing this appears to be for easier access to the transfer lever mechanism. If I can undo that from underneath that should solve my issue

First time I dropped an r380 I did remove the transmission tunnel, mostly because I used an engine crane.

Second time I slackened it off, to make access a easier, but removal wouldn't be imperative for getting the transfer box off. I'd recommend opening up the access panel under the centre seat/cubby box though, makes a big difference.

Also worth remembering that the transfer box is heavy and ungainly!
