oil query
hi again !
I'm still sitting on the fence regarding the 08 110 mentioned in an earlier post but the money is starting to burn a hole in my pocket
On the service history the gap between 1st and 2nd services was between 10 - 11k but between the 2nd and the last one the previous owner waited for 14k miles. I think thats too much especially as I,m trading in an immaculate Mitsubishi outlander where I have changed oil + filter 6 times in 30k miles due to mostly short journey work and a 4ltr sump.
The LR dealer that serviced it only ever used SLX (fully synth trade version of edge ) and I'm aware that LR recommend a semi synth such as magnatec. Although 1) the puma has a 7 ltr sump 2) the car was mostly driven longish distances 3) there's no blue smoke cold or warm I'm concerned that something eg turbo bearings, valve train etc may have taken a hammering.

Sorry this post has turned out a bit long winded but I plan to keep the car for many years.
Does anyone know if this 'extended' oil change is OK or should I walk away ?
After all there must be many a thrashed neglected white Transit out there that's running fine and I'm sure Ford would have factored this in when it designing the Puma range of engines
cheers

I should think you'll be fine.

14k isn't too long really with modern oils. If they've done mostly long journeys you should have no issues. I wouldn't worry about the oil change interval at 14k. The factory recommends 12k but 14k in a year is OK. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

thanks guys I guess you've told me what I really wanted to hear. As I've said I'll be having a more thorough test drive next Friday after which if I go for it all I'll need (from what I've seen in this forum) is a tube of silicone, a box of spanners and a big bag of swear words to keep it on the straight and narrow ! cheers

I wouldnt worry about an extra 2k

Obviously try an negotiate something for it...but there isnt much of an issue there. Mike

it wouldnt bother me, 2k extra shouldnt be a problem if quality oil has been used. Cheers
