Any diamond cut wheel will always corrode quicker than a normal alloy, not sure why, they look great for a year then one decent winter and they look dreadful and cloudy, I will never buy a car with them ever again.
I think Boosts are just a bit dated looking compared to all the nicer newer designs out there, whether it JE, Kahn, Bowler, Blindos etc. Sawtooths are very popular and they will have their day at some point. People with older 90 and 110s will still look for Boosts but when a brand new sawtooth is only £115 a corner, you'll never get much back on even take off Boosts. 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

Some people like to tart up, sorry embellish, their vehicles to look different from standard and many folks follow the subsequent trends, this means that some standard factory bits are then looked upon as passé by the herd.
Let the outrage commence. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. I remember when Boosts were launched - hated them at the time; much preferred the Tornado/Freestyle. Definitely not anymore, Boosts are good - + Tornado doesn't work on a 110!

If your basing that on how much they're selling for on here, ie..a new "take off" set. Its worth considering the tyres they are shod with. As no doubt the person selling them is getting rid for far better quality tyres aswell. So any prospective buyer will equally want better tyres aswell. By better I mean 265's and mud's and probably bfg's. So why spend £600+ on a set of boosts with "crap" tyres?.
Buyers market dictates the price etc |

I'd imagine that a large proportion of the Defenders on this site were supplied with Boost wheels as standard, so not surprising that there is not a great deal of demand for used ones. I don't think that they have fallen out of favour, just that most people already own a set!

I'm with Red Dot on this one. I too quite like the Boosts - extremely easy to clean. Seems to me it's the tyre that's more important than the wheel. Defender 90XS SW

For what it's worth I really like the Boosts think they look every bit as good as any newer wheels! But that's just me everybody is different! When I look back at some of the daft things I bolted on to my MK1 Ford Escorts back in the day I curle my towes up and we'll all look back in years to come and do the same about our Defender wheels.... It's like haircuts, boosts are the mullet of the Defender world.
HD steels are the ageless short back and sides. Edit as requested (although it does severly tax my knowledge of coiffuring): Blindos are the Purdey bob - just very sexy Twisted are the tousled feather cut - looks great straight out the shop but difficult to keep Bowler are the Paul Weller mod cut - in your face cool and hard Sawtooths are the chic undercut - all style and no substance Last edited by Supacat on 14th Mar 2016 5:04pm. I'm not a big fan of alloys on a Landy at all, as for the sawtooths I think they look plain awful. Boosts are reasonably plain and decent looking on other peoples motors, but I'll stick with steel wheels. My favourite wheels in descending order would be 1) 1 ton steels, 2) wolf steels, 3) normal steels and 4) blindos. As for 'better' tyres being the likes of a 265, then I'll happily stick with my lesser 750s, and as everyone wants better, bigger more expensive wheels and tyres I'll take the ones that are going cheap in the depressed market for the lowly 750

I don't dislike the Boost style, it is the silver colour and offset I dislike.
I like the haircut analogy... could you continue it to describe Blindo, Twisted, Bowler and Sawtooths - all in 16" Anthracite? Last edited by JOW240725 on 14th Mar 2016 3:00pm. Edited 1 time in total |

It is as I have feared for the past couple of years. The defender is now the default hairdressers car. It's official. :rolllaugh:

I guess its a fashion thing- more folk going for the 'blingier' wheels and Boosts being seen as a bit old hat.
For what its worth I think that Boost wheels are still the best of the factory alloys, they also allow easy cleaning having been in the mud, Sawtooths and the SVX (& XS) looking ones look a bit too 'Hot wheels' for me! Given the choice Id rather have Wolfs, ZU or maybe, one day the Staun TXs. Chris |

I have always thought the 'Deep Dish' alloys that Land Rover made were some of the best looking wheels they did, but you hardly ever see those around anymore. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....
