Inner tubes on alloys?
Has anyone successfully fitted tubes onto LR alloys (deep dish) with a 235 tyre (Goodyear MTR)

Is it possible? does the tube get pinched inside? will the valve stem fit through the hole in the alloy?

AFAIK most tyre's mention on them never to use inner tubes. It does on my KM2's I'm pretty sure so anyway.

You can fit a sleeve around the tube (well "inside" the tyre to stop it rubbing)

I was more concerned about the tube on the alloy rather than the contact with inside the tyre.

I was in a tyre depot a couple of weeks ago and overheard a conversation about inner tubes on alloy wheels and tubeless tyres. From what I heard it sounded as if a customer wanted tube's putting in tubeless tyres, the conclusions was sorry can't do it, its illegal and a large sign saying so was pointed out, I never tried to find out why. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

I could have sworn mine say "tubeless, may be used with tube" on them, but I could be muddling them up with some other tyres round here. I've definitely seen it somewhere.

I stand to be corrected but I thought it was due to the tyre profile. Most car tyre profiles are square. The inner tube would be round so therefore the inner tube would not support the tyre? but maybe I'm wrong. The must be a tyre fitter on here somewhere Question

Thanks for all the replies.

To be honest, it's more the alloy wheel itself rather than the tyre I'm worried about (I spoke to a tyre depot, Bathwick, so not some back street affair, who said a sleeve can be put around/inside the tyre to enable a tube to work, and I've put tubes in plenty of "tubeless" tyres in the past)

But it's the tyre on the alloy I was more concerned about. I know the alloy is nice and smoothe, especially in comparison to a steel wheel, but the way the alloy has deeper beads and the ridge that locates the inner rim of the tyre in place, I was concerned about catching the tube on this, or other things that I've not thought about.

Oh, and the valve hole... big enough for a tube valve stem?

How about pinching?
When I had my KM2's fitted I thought that I was them screwing valve stems in.
Does that mean the allloys have a threaded insert?
If so that might be problematic with an inner tube valve stem.

But I might be wrong on that one though.
