They looked at it but the standard duratorque dual mass flywheel wasn't strong enough. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

I thought dual mass flywheel was to fence the gearbox from the vibration induced by modern Diesel engines such as the Puma engine, does that mean that the gearbox is more likely to wear with a single-mass flywheel? Note, if I remember correctly, on the TD5 some people where replacing the DMF with a single mass flywheel... |

Yes, DMFs are there to dampen/absorb vibration in the drive train but the upshot is that when they let go you really know about it. Common point of failure on modern diesels, along with EGRs and DPFs.
