Had another thought, maybe you should make sure you have wading plugs fitted, the main one is in the bottom of the bellhousing although I have heard of some people having one fitted to the timing case as well. These keep the wet stuff out if you go for a paddle although I don't know if that is on the agenda or not.

You're not likely to have many problems en route but to be on the safe side you might like to consider a decent (not 'Halfords') towstrap (maybe 5 or 6 metres long) and shackles plus a short tree strop to use as a bridle between tow points at the front of your motor. You should make sure the shackles are rated for the weight of your vehicle, usually around 4.5tonne is good.

If you can re-fuel your vehicle when you arrive then you should probably be ok, a V8 might need more fuel though. I used to use my old 200Tdi 90 to head up to charity events in the Highlands from Fife, drive during the event (I am part of the medical team) and drive home again with 1 top-up when I first arrived and that was more for contingency reasons!

As for the really important stuff, well others above have said it all really! But whisky doesn't cut it for me, I've been tea-total for more than 30 years......

I'm just a boring old git!

In response to the above;

I am sure that between the group we will not be short of recovery equipment, and also Ian will have a selection. I don't foresee anyone getting *really* stuck (unless of course you want to........in which case we can probably oblige!).

Before you head off its worth doing a few checks of the usual suspects,
oil (engine, diffs,G-box, T-box)
coolant
screenwash
usable spare tyre (make sure you bring your locking wheel nut key............)

Before doing any kind of milage and/or offroading I also make an effort to check wheelbearings, grease props etc. too!

In terms of Fuel, the two closest will be Newtonmore when we are at Ardverikie, and Aviemore when we are al Dalraddy.
-For those coming the 'pretty route' via Tyndrum, Fort Bill, Spean Bridge and up, Fort William will be your last fuel
-For those coming up the A9, I *THINK* Dalwhinnie still has a petrol station however it is 2 years since I have driven that
way.

In terms of water-Im sure if people are keen there will be the opportunity to paddle their feet, and their tyres in the loch!

There may be a couple of small river crossings depending on the route Ian takes us on and the water levels at the time!

Thanks all for the responses:
I have ordered a long 7T tow strap @ 10M, a 7T tree strop @ 2M, 4x Shackles @ 6.25T and 2 Jerry Cans Smile
Getting the car serviced in a couple of weeks but its only just over a year old so should be ok...

Googled wading plugs and apparently the Puma doesn't have them

I cant tell you how excited I am! I booked into a land rover experience centre in north yorkshire at the weekend and really loved it, going to see if I have time to get some more done (LRE guys recommended LANTRA) but actually would just like to be useful and not get in the way Smile

I can do a bit of Training with you en-route, I am a BORDA Specialist Trainer with my own 4x4 Training business in Fife but this would be informal and un certified.

Guys- expect an email from Ian Brown at the end of the week/weekend. He has just taken delivery of his new rental fleet of Quadbikes so is rather busy building them and prepping other equipment in readiness for the start of the season!

I'm sure there will be the opportunity to benefit from the collective wealth of experience of those attending, from what I have already gathered there are some folk attending with many years of experience, JR (thanks for offering to chip in!), who is a trainer, Ian who delivers training too, and I'll happily chuck in my three-pennies worth if you have any queries (I have delivered a bit of 4x4 training in the past, but more quad and atv stuff!)

Don't be afraid to ask- the more that folk get out of the weekend the happier I'll be!

Oh, and on a slightly different note, Ill be enquiring with the campsites tomorrow with a bit of luck.

Chris

CAMPING
CAMPING

Ok, I have made enquiries with Invernahavon camping and caravan site today- Ian suggested it as a good location as it is between both of the venues.

It is a camping and Caravan club site- and has received excellent reviews so I think its safe to say it should be a nice venue.

They are happy to have caravans, roof tents, campers and conventional tents so we are OK on all fronts, they are also happy to try and keep our group together in one corner of the site if we book early, the site is child friendly.......

I have asked them to pencil 'us' in for arrival on Friday the 27th, leaving Sunday the 29th

The location is

Glentruim
Newtonmore
Highland
PH20 1BE

The cost will be;

£22.00 per night caravan/pitch with hook up 2 adults +£2.30 per child
£17.90 2 adults no hook up +£2.30 per child

The campsite owners have requested that I call them NEXT WEEK to confirm the booking as they are not actually open for the season yet, and then for individuals to call and place deposits to reserve pitches.

Hope this is ok- Its ideally placed and not extortionately priced- the lady I spoke to on the phone seemed very pleasant and helpful too!

Fantastic, thanks Chris.
When we call up, is there a ref name or number we should give? Or I guess this might be given to you next week...

Cheers
