Hi Chris
Just got back from Highland 4x4. Did a couple of Quad treks with them and I have to say the trails and estate are stunning. Can't make May but would be interested if you are thinking of doing another trip later in the year. Mark |

There is no extra kit neededa standard defender will be fine as there are ways to bypass certain sections and there may be other sections that folk can choose to take on or not. As I have mentioned above, this isn't going to be a headbanging plough through the forests..... It's a Greenlane style of trip with few more challenging bits chucked in for those who are keen! Would you like adding to the list as the 10th participant?! If so can you read the above and pop me an email please? Chris |

So in preparation for this epic trip, so excited, I'm thinking I need to buy stuff. What do members recommend I would need for my 90 ahead of this?
I was thinking perhaps jerrycans of diesel (since it's a 90 and has a thimble for a fuel tank), perhaps waterproof seat covers? Wadding plugs? Read that when I was 8ish so could be well off the mark? Special off road insurance? Cheers Michael |

You're not likely to have many problems en route but to be on the safe side you might like to consider a decent (not 'Halfords') towstrap (maybe 5 or 6 metres long) and shackles plus a short tree strop to use as a bridle between tow points at the front of your motor. You should make sure the shackles are rated for the weight of your vehicle, usually around 4.5tonne is good.
If you can re-fuel your vehicle when you arrive then you should probably be ok, a V8 might need more fuel though. I used to use my old 200Tdi 90 to head up to charity events in the Highlands from Fife, drive during the event (I am part of the medical team) and drive home again with 1 top-up when I first arrived and that was more for contingency reasons! As for the really important stuff, well others above have said it all really! But whisky doesn't cut it for me, I've been tea-total for more than 30 years...... I'm just a boring old git! |
