Steve, how frequently do you change your brake fluid? Irrespective of mileage done, should be replaced every two years due to its tendency to absorb moisture.

Yeah, read in the manual.
I get the dealer to do it as it's brake related.
And yes, they don't include it in a regular service it has to be mentioned at the same time.

I've got a full service. (Larger one) coming up this coming year so I'll have the brake fluid changed too.

I won't like the price though.

For the time being I'll go with what K9 suggested as a top up then get it changed when serviced.

Opie are doing a good discount for us right now too.

Hi,
Yes, topping up did indeed cure the problem permanently.
It didn't even look like it needed topping up but a very small amount and it was gone.

It was definitely the cause.

My Defender is the same, in order to stop the light flickering when braking facing downhill I have to keep the fluid level (on the flat) a little higher than the MAX mark on the reservoir, just about up to the bottom on the filler neck in fact.

If I do this, the light doesn't flicker.

Seems to be a landrover thing!

The float in there must be slightly higher than it actually should be.
I suppose better that than too low though.

Worked for me, however I have noticed that my pads are getting low and I think this is why my light is flickering as the fluid is much lower due to the increased displacement of the brake system - topped up for now but will change and flush when the disks and pads are done.
