An excellent story, and a great thread. I would love to do such a trip, and am in total admiration! Keep the photos coming. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

Again in Kyrgyzstan - with visa free entry it makes perfect place to spend time and wonder what to do next.

Uzbekistan
Before crossing the border I had to remove this metal bit. It is fuel line support next to the starter. It rubbed through main power line causing sparks and power supply issues when on bumpy roads. Discussed "live" here: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39551.html (thank you K9F again for helpful tips). Click image to enlarge Fuel supply is an issue in Uzbekistan. Most pumps are dry - all cars run on LPG, even agriculture machinery and heavier cars are LPG. As I speak good Russian it was always possible to find a pump but I have heard many stories from fellow travellers how difficult is to find diesel here. Fuel quality is an issue here too - diesel looks like really dark tea, smokes a bit more and leaves green residue in the exhaust. I do not know if it helped or not but I never filled in full tank here at one source - topping up 30-40 litres everyday (my tank has capacity of 87 L). At the end of the day the engine has burned everything without a single choke. The story continues... still in Uzbekistan.
Spot the Landy Click image to enlarge Here it is! Click image to enlarge The old city of Khiva Click image to enlarge There was some talk here about storage boxes - here is what I have used. Around 6 EUR each, partly translucent to see what is inside (one was for cooking, one for clothes, one for other gear and one spare for souvenirs). Easy to arrange at the back of my 90 and easy to take it with you to a hotel room (as here in Khiva). Click image to enlarge The first and the last windscreen hit I have got.
