Code reader recommendation
Hello

Following from my light on the dashboard this morning Sad

What code readers do people recommend, where does it plug in and is there a list of codes and what they mean?

I don't want to make things worse but a quick Google suggest my Engine management light could be anything... and the car drove completely fine when on. So it could be worth me buying one for now and future.

Thanks

It is advisable as stated in the other thread you're running.....

Scangauge or Ultragauge....pound for pound and what you will need it to do they are the best money. Stacks of information on both if you are able to do a search?

I will wager that it is an EGR related code that will disappear either today or tomorrow after you've driven it properly 5 or 6 times. I have had a Scangauge II for several years and it has done everything I need it to do. Basically read and reset codes. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Is this the job Smile

I do worry when lights are on the dash... If I get this and plug it in it will then let me know the error code that I can look up?

Then reset it?

I assume if something is major it will come back on though?

Thanks again

^^Ideal. It will tick all your boxes and all the codes are available online. If not once you've got the reader drop me a 'pm' with your e-mail and I'll send them all to you willingly!

Hi all,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but thought it was better than starting a new one on code readers - does anyone have any recommendations for an OBD tool that will carry out a static/forced regeneration of the DPF on a 2.2 puma?

Autel tools can do DPF service functions on everything but a defender annoyingly. Anticipating the "just drive it like you stole it for ten minutes" that's not always possible in some parts of the world a Defender can carry you to Sad If there'd have been an options box called "DPF delete" on the order form I would've ticked, underlined, and circled it.

Cheers

Joe

That's the sort of thing I used to have! Sold it though since having the ATRIC device from Alive which does the same thing.

Thanks for the replies.

Does the Alive Atric (I'm assuming that's the calibration flash tool they supply?) have the ability to force a dpf regen then or is it just a code reader? I'll certainly be after a re-map from somewhere as soon as its out of warranty.

Thanks Smile

That'd be a question best answered by Gary @ Alive himself.
I'll notify him of your question. Thumbs Up

Forced regen was discussed here, but no firm conclusion as to whether it's actually possible:
