Adaptor shaft standard or Ashcroft
Hi all just bought my 110 and would like to drop the transfer box and check the condition of the adaptor shaft. I see Ashcroft's are doing a kit of modified parts should I buy the kit or good quality standard parts?

I've done a few now using genuine parts, and there have been no problems.

It's only down to JLR doing half a job, that they caused issues... Mad

Full kit to replace everything from LR around £160, fit and forget.

Can't comment on the Ashcroft kit? But I'm sure coming from them it would be just as good.
It's been well documented on here, I did do quite a large post on it.

Thanks just read thru your post looks easy enough. Ashcroft kit is about twice the price of standard parts but as you say will probably be good.
I'll speak to my local specialist and see what he suggests.

The only problem with OE was the lubrication, nothing else that'd I'm aware of.
I've done 50k on mine no problem, but was greased from factory unlike sone out there and to double check when clutch was done last year I asked them to lube it just in case.
Bit of Moly grease is all that's needed, can't believe they just left some. Shocked

My bog standard, ex-factory coupling had imperceptible wear when inspected (and thoroughly greased) at 150k miles during a clutch and transfer box change, so there are certainly some good ones out there.

Just done the coupling on a mates 110 Double cab. It was on its second coupling at 50000 and 5 years. It's on its second clutch too. Don't know what miles they were done at, but there was certainly signs of someone being there before us doing both jobs.

We fitted the standard parts. I used a high %moly content moly grease that I borrowed from work and used loads of it.
The coupling we removed was well worn, several splines had gone completely on the female part, the male part wasn't far off of stripping completely. It was probably only one jerky gerachange away from going completely

Mind you it's had a hard life, it was from a shooting estate in the highlands so has spent a lot of time off road with a set of knobbly 265 tyres on.
