Is the plate on it currently an old plate? The DVLA sometimes do this to stop you from transferring an old (and valuable) plate from your car onto retention, forcing the DVLA to issue you another age related (and valuable plate)
You can place another plate onto your vehicle, but the plate currently on it will not be able to be transferred onto another vehicle. Chance are, when you remove your plate in the fututre, the same plate thats on it now, will be re-allocated to it. |

That is normal if for example an original registration has been reissued. My 1952 Bedford OLBD and my 1961 Iron Fairy 6 both were annotated thus after I had the original registrations reissued to replace the ghastly "SU" and "Q" plates they had respectively when I bought them.
As far as I know you can still put your own plate on the vehicle if that's what floats your boat but you can't put the plate currently on the vehicle on anything else. |

Hello
No the plate on the LR is nothing special at all, that's why I thought odd just a normal plate that reads nothing I can make out and not old it the newer format such as AB 64 XXX odd but as long as I can put my private on it that's all good |

If I remember correctly, you cannot use a VRM to make a vehicle appear younger so your 64 plate could not be put on a 2015 vehicle. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Other way around, you can't put the 64 plate on anything older

Hello
Thanks, it was more the issue that the LR has the note on the V5 and I thought this means you cannot put a private on it. so None transferable plate simply means the LR plate will always stay with the car no matter what other plates may go on the car over its life. |

Sort of but more importantly it means the non transferable plate can't be put on another vehicle

Hello
Update.... I have the V5 back for the LR now with my plate on so all is good on that front. Oddly, under the special notes now it does NOT say the registration is none transferable? I guess that's as now I have my plate on it... All very confusing... but at the end of the day all worked out. Collecting it Sunday |

That itsn't odd at all.
As explained above, the note meant that the non-transferable plate that was on the vehicle and to which the note applied could not be transferred to and displayed on another vehicle. Now that you have your vanity plate on the vehicle, the note is irrelevant and has gone. If it was still there, you'd never be able to use your vanity plate on any other vehicle in the future. Simple, really! |

i expect the vehicle you bought previously has a private plate on it so a 2nd age related one was put on it prior to you buying, hence the non transferabble 2nd number. Cheers

This is to stop people making money from the DVLA issuing age related plates. e.g. you have a classic car with a (potentially valuable) old plate then put a private plate on it. You sell the original plate. Then you take the private plate off the vehicle and the DVLA issue a new age related plate, you then sell the new (potentially valuable) age related plate and put back the private plate and so on. Making the age related plate non-transferable puts a stop to this.
