Ok so far
![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge New gasket fitted. ![]() Click image to enlarge One of the lift rod tubes had a break in the red line around it. I figured that is was close enough to the bolt and on the low pressure side so I didn't bother with it. What is the red line? I imagine its some kind of silicone? ![]() Click image to enlarge Head on! Wow, stretch bolts. There a horrible experience! They feel like they are just about to shear off! Chalk helped with identifying as long as my best mate to help point and assist with the angle gauge. Hoping to get the plumbing for the Webasto sorted tonight bar the fuel lines and maybe get the injectors in and plumbed up. If im lucky i can get the exhaust side prepared ready for the new studs to go in. Yes it was a huge relief when all torqued and sat down.
Cannot tell you enough how much I'm looking forward to getting back into the cab and turning the key ![]() Self confessed mileage hunter ![]() |

Thanks
![]() In some ways I would rather be doing one of those head gaskets. Bit more heavy duty! Most of my mechanical knowledge and skills came from rebuilding steam engines so cars have always seemed a bit delicate and fragile in comparison. The last cylinder block I did up I did up with a flogging spanner and a 8lb hammer so all this torquing up business is very new to me! Had a good day today, started out with cutting hedges at a friends house which was done quicker than anticipated so I rushed home to finish off work on my 200Tdi.
Everything was ready, the injector pipes were connected up, the fuel spill offs were connected. I filled her up with coolant, bled the fuel system and did some final checks for leaks finding one jubilee clip which needed nipping up. Then with bated breath I tentatively sat in the cab and turned the key. Click Click Click....... ![]() After what seemed like forever there was enough charge in the battery to try again. Turned over a few times and then with a cough and a splutter she burst into life! The relief was enormous and after a few checks I tentatively had a trundle up and down the drive to make sure all was well. I let her get up to temperature and then turned off so she could cool down so I can have another check over. What a relief! Now just need to get the fuel system for the Webasto sorted out and I will be very happy! Felt sooo good to be back in the driving seat again.
