I have gone for the Turner head, everything else just looked too much like a gamble and an expensive one at that (not that the Turner engineering option was the cheapest by any stretch Rolling Eyes)

I'm hoping to have a good run at it tomorrow so hopefully photos to update then.

In the mean time, if you have a 200Tdi head - For god sake look after it! Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

I don't know to be honest, but I imagine its down to cost.

I think it might be because the head design is very complex and the patterns are well gone.

I think the Td5 heads from Spain are the original manufacturer anyway- they just never stopped making them.

300Tdi was mass produced until very recently and you can still get variants of it but its so different from a 200Tdi head you cant use it or modify it.

I did wander about looking into getting a load cast up but the amount of hours to design a new core box and pattern are mind boggling and the numbers I imagine quite scary.

Shame really as otherwise its a bulletproof engine! Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Right, bits mostly arrived.

Before I fit the head, is there anything I should do?

I am thinking of giving the engine a good degrease, fit the head. New coolant, same oil but run a oil flush and then change oil and filter.

Anything else I should change?

concentrate very very hard when re torquing head bolts. i was marking mine as i went through sequence and got to 14 ish lost concentration and could remember if i had tightened and not marked or not tightened! lol its a pressure situation haha.
i used a marker and numbered top of bolts too so i didn't need to keep checking manual. be careful with that too as i nearly tightened 9 before 6 as they look same from different angles!! lol My 109 thread
