What is the best primer for aluminum?
What is best on aluminum? Self etching or 2 part epoxy primer?

I had always thought self etching, however some local bodyshops are saying it's better to use 2 part epoxy. I defer to the country that paints more aluminum vehicles than anywhere else in the world for the correct answer....

I've always used an etch primer (had good results with PPG)
And never had any adhesion problems.

Yes, etch primer.

You may wish to use a fine hi-build primer on top though as I find etch primer rather 'absorbant' so takes up the paint more than you'd expect.

I have always just made sure I've had more paint on hand.

All depends on how you lay it down too.

My sub grille was cast Alu:

Not a great quality photo but it's been brilliant no problem at all.

I use Autotek etch but each man has his own preference.
