Please would you consider participating:
Tim Aker MEP writes: In the space of three weeks, three illegal traveller sites sprung up across Thurrock. Recently the EADT reported a stand off between farmers and travellers in Nayland. In Belhus Park, 70 caravans stormed the field. It took the Council two weeks to remove them leaving wreckage that will cost £36,000 to clean up. The phones rang off the hook with residents wanting their parks and fields back. But the Council had barely any powers to act quickly. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/105642 Merlin |

Our retail park car parks get taken over about twice a year which strangely coincides with lots of extra thefts in the area (including one of my old bosses just rebuilt 90) they are there roughly 2 weeks till they get turfed out and then the presumably costly clean up (how do they make so much mess in two weeks?) then takes place. It's strange how the traveller community can't understand why we don't want then here Ray

If you own the land or have right of ownership you can serve them with an eviction notice, we are nice so give them 24 hours to leave. You could give them 12 hours if you wanted. 130's have feeling's as well you know

Local park and football pitch got invaded about two months ago.
Not sure how long they were there, at a guess 7-14 days. Guess where the horses were staked out? Slap bang in the middle of the football pitch! Have no idea about the cost to the LOCAL TAXPAYER. Please note the use of the expression local taxpayer and not local council as councils have no or very little money of their own. It comes from the taxpayer! The interesting thing was the size and quality of the caravans and 4x4's. Certainly not from the budget end of caravan/4x4 market. Also there were the standard 'Tarmac your drive , Guv' vans. As for the use of a muck spreader? Brendan |

We also had them take over the local football field with posh 4x4 and cars with posher caravans.
They crapped all over the place, in bushes next to the cricket pitch and even on a foot bridge and left dirty paper allover the place. They even crapped under the skateboard park ramp. I HATE THEM ALL |

One of the problems for the local council with this particular park/football pitch is the lack of a good quality fence. Some of the boundaries are just marked with largish boulders.
Now the council has had to pay X£ of local taxpayers money to evict this bunch of travellers. Now does the local council spend local taxpayers money to erect a substantial fence to prevent further incursions, also making it less accessible to local people. Or do they cross their fingers and hope for no recurrence of the 'invasion' Remember local councils are strapped for cash at the moment. Would you prefer the local council to spend money on local facilities, care homes etc or having to spend money to clear up the mess from travellers? Brendan |

If you want to opt out of societal norms of behaviour that is fine and I will not judge you for your choice. However that cuts both ways and society should be free to deal with you without the rule of law. You invade on mass we evict you with a physical warning on mass. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Wouldn't mind as much if they we're travellers; the problem is they're only "travellers". It starts off with a hole in the hedge, then bonfires and parked cars start to appear. Once the area is completely clear, a fence appears along with a "no tresspassers" or "CCTV in operation" sign. Before you know it a caravan or log cabin is standing on the site. After a short while, a brick house is built as quickly as possible and finally the most hideous wall imaginable springs up. The plot is then sold for a small fortune and they move on to another site to do it again.
The exact scenario above is happening at a particular location nearby. It's on council land, they are fully aware that they're there and I believe complains have been made, yet nothing has happened. I have a theory about why there are so many getting away with it here, but I can't voice it... Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK Discovery 3 TDV6 Auto HSE Zambezi Silver |

Just noticed there are a whole load of them turned up on saville park in Halifax. Pity the folk who live round there! It is one of the posher areas of Halifax.

We are plagued by Travellers in my area, especially in the summer, even the small caravan sites are afflicted by them as they will pitch up usually when the site owner is out and then do not pay and the site owner has go through the process of eviction. This means not only does the owner lose money, but those who have booked their touring caravan holiday have to then find another site.
However caravan Travellers are not our only problem we have ‘New Age Travellers’ who come with converted buses, converted furniture vans you name it. They also have big generators and big speakers and play music into the small hours. They park up and camp in the carparks of beauty spots meaning tourists cannot park, so the tourist move on which means local business’s suffer. And the police seem powerless to move the New Age Travellers on and when they finally do they just move a couple of miles down the road into another carpark. Locally we suffer from these "people" as do many, but what brings them here, work. Generally you see the scouting parties a few days earlier, suited men in HVV's with clip boards looking all official touting for work. Driveways, roof repairs, facias and guttering that type of thing. After gaining enough work from those idiots who want a cheap and cheerful job but paying the earth they move in. It's easy to see what work they've undertaken because the scrap tiles, blacktop, tree cuttings are left behind. They tend to move on when either the work dries up or there's nowhere left to crap. Personally I blame our "bleeding hearts" council, up until recently the Green Party and those people who employ them. I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Most councils problem is that they cant evict as they have a 'duty of care' towards the travellers if they did the racist card would get pulled. This is why they normally park on council owned land and the travellers pull out the 'duty of care' card.
However We had them park in our council owned local village car park, the car park is rented to the village amenities trust over a long term agreement, now the wording in the agreement states ownership rights. On this basis we served the travellers and gave them 24 hours to leave. They in turn got the local traveller rep involved, the chap knew the law very well and hurled abuse at us, however there was nothing he could do and they left. The key thing is to serve them asap before they get established. We have the paperwork sat waiting for the next lot to turn up, all I have to do is add the date and time and get my mate Mr Bailiff to hand them the paperwork. The last eviction cost about £750. 130's have feeling's as well you know Last edited by AndrewS on 29th Aug 2015 7:11am. Edited 1 time in total |

We have a large group come to a popular pilgrimage site a mile away from me about this time every year.
Crime rate goes through the roof, mobile police station is put in to the village where it's all happening and every farm in the area gets far more alert. White vans driving round with two people inside, one offering you second hand generators, welders, chainsaws etc and the other turning the van round in a very drawn out way so they can have a good look round whilst you're distracted. We just get them off the site ASAP (whilst being polite, you really don't want to get on the wrong side of them) and call the next couple of farms to lock up their gates. The aresholes just give the genuine ones a bad name. |
