HI GUYS
i have a problem with my 110 crew cab td5 (54 plate). last weekend it started cutting out leave it a couple of minutes and it would under deres start again few miles later would cut out again noticed if you drove it very slowly and did'nt over rev it would behave ,fuel pump has been very noisy since i bought the truck , took advice from more than 1 sorce and had the fuel pump replaced. it is a lot less noisy and runs better but under a heavy right foot it still cuts out . hope someone out there can help ------------------------------------------------------- 05 110 crew cab td5 1987 90 tc TD/200TDI DISCO CONVERTION |

If you think it is fuel starvation, change the fuel filter under the offside wheel arch. Genuine ones are expensive, I've got an allmakes only cost a few pounds.

dunno then, Sorry.
maybe alarm/immobiliser fault? cant be fuel pressure regulator as it would still run even is stuck at LP. If there are no wng lights coming on does that not suggest something nice and simple and mechanical. blocked fuel return? blocked filter? does it do it after a set time running or just adhoc? just reread your post.
So it runs fine if you dont use a heavy right foot? so upto what speed? 50mph? in that case could be fuel regulator. Fuel pump was changed with this fault before and the fault still remains yes? or did the engine stopping fault come since the pump was changed? seems to go for about 2 to 3 miles at a time if you tan the throttle if you drive it like a coffin dodger it dont do it at all ------------------------------------------------------- 05 110 crew cab td5 1987 90 tc TD/200TDI DISCO CONVERTION |

I like the avatar too....I reckon Sonic's avatar has had her t1ts done and you've got the 'post op' avatar.... I'm on the same lines as JST with the blockage theory, or it could be a split pipe as well maybe, Not an expert at all but would put money on it that it is fuel starvation and by booting it the fuel pipes are cavitating. I have very limited experience on the fuel mechanics of a Defender, however if you are mechanically minded, have access to an airline how about disconnecting the fuel feed and returns and blowing them out with air then blocking them up and do a pressure test? Personally I reckon you've got a restriction/blockage somewhere or perhaps a split pipe that is sucking in air under load possibly??? Hope this helps and good luck in your quest to find a resolution. Sounds like fuel starvation, have you tried driving it with fuel cap off????????
Then consider fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel lines Also check air filter, just in case. When it dies can you still hear fuel pump?, if not check relays under seat, as one may be getting hot. Andy |

When you have made sure the fuel system is ok...try the throttle potentiometer (name remembered) its the unit that is a bit like a scalextric control takes the throttle position and changes it to what the car does...this is very similar to a fault i have expereinced.
Basically when you press it hard (boot it) the movement hits the patch that doesnt work and it dies ... when you gentle you use the good bit and its ok. Description of what it does:
