T4 Land Rover hand Held unit
I bought a 1999 TD5 earlier this year here in Kazakhstan that came WITHOUT any 2-button Fob (but with a code how to override the immobiliser and supposedly official import documents).

The car has been in and out of repair for a year; there is only one very unpleasant, and very expensive repair shop here that has some experience with them, otherwise in the small community here in Almaty is everybody is pretty much fiddling around on his own...

I am looking for a long term solution for the immobiliser as well as a reasonable option to be able to:

A) programme a new key fob myself (the guys at the shop here claim that this can't be done unless I buy a whole new body control unit)
B) Allow me to control the computer myself
C) give alternative repair shops / non-specialised technicians access to the system.

So far I have been recommended (in the UK) to buy an original 2nd hand "hand Held unit" that supposedly solves the programming problem for 500 pounds. While I am tempted to trust the guys who recommended this, I still would like to check my option, whether I might not be better off just buying the right cable & the software needed to do what I need.

Supposedly an official Landrover dealer recently opened, but I doubt that they will be close enough to earth to be dependent on them, not to mention what happens if that car ever goes where it's supposed to go (into the field)

Any recommendations?

As far as I'm aware the Landy needs to be plugged into a Testbook and set up to a fob that way. Although I'm not 100% on that, it's what my local dealer said, but someone will be able to put you on the right track I'm sure.

((Slightly off topic but I didn't think there'd be any Td5's that far from Europe. Only other one I've heard of is a 110 that was driven to Mongolia and donated to a local charity! ))

i can think of 2 options.

Option 1

Buy a Blackbox Soloutions Faultmate and TD5 software package and you can do all your own diagnostics and recode your security from the 10AS to the engine ecu. (Not body control as you were told ) Only discovery has a BCU.
It also does live data and reprogramming of the 10AS and engine ecu, and is a fantastic tool for all your diagnostic needs.

Option 2

Send me the engine ecu and for 150 quid+vat where applicable + postage ill remove the immobliser for ever and will start every time.
This option does not make any 2-button-fobs work its ONLY to make the car run, and fobs are not needed for this but can be added later with diagnostic tools for central locking if fitted.
