I use Pelican 1750s for international & air travel but they'd be too big to fit in your 90. For day to day transport I just use a decent quality drag bag that has padding in it such as those made by AIM. A good quality scope in the right rings & mounts should not suffer that sort of problem simply by getting airborne over a railway crossing - the old timers I shoot with refer to 'the rose bed test', put simply you should be able to drop a scoped rifle out of a first floor window into a rose bed & still be able to place shots accurately without needing to re zero it. Only ever once had a rifle go out of zero on me & that was an issue where the rifle moved in the stock as the bedding screws were lose.

I have quality scopes and mounts £1.5k ish plus gun, and use the peli the whole time, 1750, it goes In back of my 90 on the diagnol. Looks after my investment and sport.
Any gun taking a direct hit on the scope from a fall I would be check zeroing decent or otherwise. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

The change of keeper at Sydenham has really woken the place up. I was there yesterday and it was comfortably the best days shooting I’ve ever had. Mrs H came too and did a bit of picking up with the old dog, and I had the young dog on the peg- first time on a driven day and safe in the knowledge if it all got too much for her then she could drop back with Mrs H. Happily she was really settled on the peg, didn’t squeak, look to run in or dance about. Forget the shooting, that was the real success of the day, I’m absolutely chuffed the training is paying off.
A fellow gun yesterday rocked up in a DB6 Superleggera, which was stunning. He was a nice guy and it turns out he also has a 4, 5 and Lagonda , all painted to match. Needless to say when Mrs H was offered a spin I was left with the dogs for company. Fickle creatures these women To be fair I’d have done the same! Dog on peg: Click image to enlarge |

Nice!!
Alas, mine shamed us both by running in (twice) - the second time he picked up 4 birds without returning with a single one (I originally sent him for a runner). More training to attempt. I shot well (for me) and the Browning was lovely. 50:50 duck and pheasant split bag of 102. |

Never mind Doc, these things happen. What I didn’t mention was that MrsH let the old dog off mid busy drive and it decided to visit every gun in the line except me. Fortunately it didn’t go forward of the guns. I had suggested that it would be better to keep the dog on a lead until the drive was over, unless there was a clear runner. ‘She wanted to go’.....we had the normal exchange of looks between a married couple and the dog was kept on a lead. It didn’t help I’d got the only whistle. Happy days.

The shooting and dog etiquette seems quite complex Very enjoyable thread though.

Sounds like a good day out muttopia. The dog work is my favourite part of shooting. My current young cocker buddy is in his second season and is absolutely excelling, the only time he ever struggles is when I interfere to much and don’t let him use his nose! Less in more from my perspective. The other thing he struggles with is the quality of my shooting!!

Dog etiquette can get a bit fraught, but only in the wrong company! I think 90% of training is nothing to do with shooting, it is just manners. If the dog is under control then it’s natural instincts do the rest, and the more you do the better you work together as a team and that’s really enjoyable.
Poor pic, I’ve got some better ones on another phone. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Bodfuan Shoot, Pwllheli. Don’t- completely shot out (partridge only) and by the looks of it has been for sometime. Disappointing to come this far for such a poor day, especially as it was clear the management knew it was busted.

It’s been a busy time with beating, picking up, shooting and the odd clay shoot too. My 18 month old is in season which is a shame as she’s missed out a fair bit.
This pic is my 11 year old, with a 20g side by side non ejector, double trigger on a clay shoot on Boxing Day. It all clicked for him and at one point when another gun hit a clay breaking it in two, Oli hit the first piece with the first barrel and second piece with the next. I’m just glad someone in the family can shoot, he certainly doesn’t get it from me, as my fellow guns were keen to point out. Repeatedly. Click image to enlarge I hope you’ve all had happy and safe shooting over the break |

Versatile Land Rover, a week ago it was cleaned for the first time to be the wedding car for a friend. Yesterday it got a bit stuck then with all 3 lockers and the winch managed to get out and collect Dad's little beastie. Teased the valeter about the state of it so soon after the wedding. Quote from him "using it for what it was designed for".
