I think both alive and bas recommend an aftermarket intercooler with their 170bhp plus remaps for the 2.2.Bowler dont!!!
I know which one i would prefer towing up a long hill on a hot summers day. You guessed it, it isn't the bowler map.

i think in the case of warranty....

has anybody heard a dealer refuse any work yet because of a remap? I've just had a brand new gearbox and clutch on a car thats got a huge intercooler, big remap, billet hybrid turbo... i don't even bother taking the map of for taking the car into the dealership..

the only thing I've been refused warranty on so far is door seals... Sad

The Bowler St1 consists of as said ,new ecu and Bowler remap.
The Bowler ST2 consists of new ecu, Turbo, Intercooler and cat back exhaust. Its not just a map and cooler.

Thanks, Pete for clarifying. I presume the implied message here is it's a Bowler remap not a BAS one. This being in response to those who have suggested it is the same. 2015 110 XS CSW Montalcino Red with Black Pack

No problem on the clarification of tuning stages they offer. words in my last post were not intended to imply or swing any thoughts either way, but I can say you have for sure what you have paid for which is a Bowler branded remap which drives very well.

This is an interesting but thoroughly confusing thread!

As BAS are here, a question or two:

1. So is there absolutely no difference between a map done using your DIY programmer and one done in a workshop? Others seem to love showing images of cars sat on rolling roads and talk of tweaks to make things right. Is this all hype? Or are such changes so minor they don't matter?

2. The warranty issue doesn't seem to get properly answered by you and others. I note thought that your tool allows the ECU to be reprogrammed back to standard. Thus I assume if you did have a warranty claim you could simply remap to standard. Or can the stealer see the date of the mapping?

3. Ref 2. Is this the reason for selling new ECU's? I.e. Take your old one out and pop it on the shelf for if you have an issue swap it back? Surely though the dealer would see that no data had been logged?

Correct no difference in a BAS map don't here or with the BAS2, I will still write you a file to match your car and any mods you may have along with driving style specifics.

Others..... Put is this way, I use my rolling road for development and deep understanding of my job which enables me to change things within the ecu data without the need to strap every single customers car on the dyno that comes in the door. Apart from that my car is always on the dyno as the test monkey so I don't need to give the abuse to my customers cars the dyno throws at it.

Warranty could be and most likely will void if your dealer can see you have got a BAS remap as well as any other mods or remap on the car , their is no other way to say it.

New ecu stops us having to open the original factory ecu to apply the OBD unlock patch and so it means you have your original untouched unopened ecu in original factory state to use as and when you wish, an ecu that's not plugged in is the same as an ecu that's on a car that's not driven or switched on in respect of data logged.

Hi all

Thank you for your posts.

I must advise that Land Rover do not recommend or approve any third party modification that would take a vehicle away from it's original manufacturers specification.

Should a vehicle concern be identified that can be attributed to a third party modification, this would not be covered under the three year manufacturers warranty.

Regards

Ryan

Thank you Ryan

So to provide absolute clarity for what is a very important issue:

Are the companies such as "bowler" and "urban truck" who clearly state that the warranty is NOT effected deemed as a "third party"? Or are they indeed your authorised partners.

I look forward to your response.

Barney

ALL or any car modifications or upgrades including fitting of accessories that are not done at the main dealer are classed as a third party modification and could void warranty. Their is no in-between or other way to dress it.

It gets more and more fascinating as now the implication is that two of the best known names in Defender modifications are lying to their customers? Either that or people have been mistaken by what they thought they were buying.

I think I'd like a full answer from Ryan as for one I was close to placing an order with one of the ones mentioned.

Hi Barney12

As stated by bell-auto-services, the companies that you are referring to are third parties and as such, any modifications that they may offer are not official/Land Rover approved. Therefore, any concerns that may arise due to these modifications would not be covered under the manufacturers warranty.

Regards

Ryan
