I beleive even in last generation gearboxes 2nd gear is still a bit rough. My new gearbox is quiater in 6th than the old one.
About 2-3% on Moly should fix the 2nd gear. Remember that syncros need a bit of friction to work properly and it is one of the reasons to use GL-4 oil spec. Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |

I was planning when the warranty ends, to change all the fluids to the diff lock version - had success with them in previous land rovers + im not too confident on the long service intervals with the standard oil Mike

I guessed they were - i think they have been for some time. My problem is last time i checked, the components (transfer and diffs) are almost the same as those you would once change oils every 12k now i think its every 40k! Gearbox is an unknown, so i like the idea of changing the oil to see if it improves it Mike |

Mike
One of the problems my new clutches are supposed to have sorted is the syncro, or lack of. The only gear that I have a real problem with after the latest clutch is second, which has always been the main offender. My dealer has adjusted the detents etc. but still it is impossible to engage smoothly. I have found that after using diff lock and low range for a while I do get a slight improvement. Guess it is something I can live with, especially after the last clutch change saga. Bob |

If your slow with the changes it really does help - by slow i mean not to snatch at the change.
May try the gearbox additive. Mine i dont think is that bad/has a problem - just wanted to get ducks in a line Mike |

Mike My change from first to second has to be so slow I am almost stationary by the time I engage second ! Also, attempting to change to second at above 10mph is a lottery ! I am tring to find a UK dealer for CPL at the moment - it has got to be worth a try. Bob |

Mine isnt like that - although it could be how i change gear differently to you anyway?
Do halfords not sell it - they sell the others. Mike |

Halfords don't sell it. Only places I have found so far are in Germany or CPL in Italy - not sure if they will sell directly.
My temporary solution works fine if I am not towing something - I don't bother with first gear Bob |
