Door hinge recommendations please!
Before long I am going to have to replace all the side door hinges (ie four doors) on my 2007 DC due to the inevitable wear. Looking online there seems to be a considerable range of different offerings from different manufacturers, and prices from the sublime to the ridiculous.

I am sure that there must be many here who have replaced hinges already, so please does anyone have any recommendations for the best supplier and choice? I am disinclined to use anything which has come from Britpart since I have never in my life had a satisfactory part from that particular manufacturer. Big Cry

I don't want stainless or hyper-expensive aftermarket types. What I am after is a standard set of hinges of at least the same quality as the (rather poor quality) originals, but preferably at a less absurd price than Genuine Parts.

Does anyone know of OEM sets or who the manufacturer is?

The originals have lasted 8 years and 170k miles or so, so haven't done too badly, however it is my intention to modify the new hinges to fit grease nipples before fitting to prevent future problems. (I was contemplating bushing and repinning my originals, but since it seems to be impossible to buy replacement hinge pins and would be quite a time consuming option I have more-or-less discounted this option for now.

Suggestions and feedback on personanl experience would be appreciated, thanks! Thumbs Up

Blackwolf I have a set of stornoway grey take offs from my 90 you can have for free to do with what you want. PM if interested and we can arrange pick up. Think they may tick all your boxes, OEM, right colour and don't get any cheaper. You will still obviously need to source rears.

Why would stainless be do bad? I know of galvanic corrosion but if they were painted all over that'd isolate them and if a specific corrosion inhibitor for use with stainless like the Naka stainless bolt kit grease has I can't see the problem.

I think if I remember correctly parts are rubber shimmed anyway or at least hinge to body.

Etch primer would give a good 'bite' into stainless so that wouldn't be a problem to paint.

I suppose the price is high though which may be the factor?

Thumbs Up

@K9F, PM sent, you are indeed a gentleman! Thumbs Up

@C90Steve, they're not bad, I just don't want them!

(Not particularly relevant to hinges, but having over the years spent many, many hours removing (or attempting to remove) the unnecessary A2 csk socket-head cap stainless fasteners* from my Patriot rack, most of which time has been spent cursing and bleeding in similar amounts, I have a general aversion to using stainless fittings and fasteners when they are unnecessary. Those of you who know me will know that my Def works and plays hard and is not polished and prettied. For me there is no advantage at all in stainless)!

Never, ever, use a countersunk A2 hex socket head setscrew in a hole tapped into aluminium if you think you might ever want to remove it!
