This spring the new BFG A/T tire will be launched in our 235-85/16 size. First evolution in 12 years. Full name is BFG All-Terrain T/A KO2.
Unless you are a regular serious off roader, might be worth the wait. They are already available in USA in different sizes, and sofar reading only very good reviews on them. Now that I am forced to buy new summer wheels/tires, I intend to buy these when they become available here in Switzerland, understand that is going to be April like rest of Europe, so good timing. Intend to put them on new OEM gloss black HD Wolf wheels. Think will be good looks on the SVX, and will be more than enough aggressiveness for me who does 99.9% on road driving. Every bit as good. I can't think of a single reason which would make me consider even for a moment fitting ATs instead of KM2s. |

What is the logic of putting 255/85-16 on a Puma by the way? Don't believe a Defender is homologated for that size in the first place, and it surely throws the accuracy of the speedo well off. If going wider, doesn't the 265/75-16 makes more sense?

The 255/85 size gives the extra bit of clearance under the diffs which is useful. They are also a bit narrower than the 265/75 size and hence cut through the mud a bit better. As the speedos on modern cars read a little high, I find the 255/85 size bring the reading back to what it should be. I just have to remember there is no leeway on that reading and stick strickly to the speed limit. It's a good point about homolgation and I must add it to the list of non-standard items on my insurance. KM2 are no noisier than the ATs, I find them very quite. They pass the new EU laws for tyre noise (76dba..?). Cheers Simon |
