ref your prep wise, i went with a few off here in May. i took a 110 utility XS. it already had fitted
Southdown tow pack Southdown Front axle guard Southdown Rear axle guard Southdown side sills Rear door windows tinted MSS rear store draw MSS locable Cubby Cargo Seperator For the trip i added Southdown front bumper for a TDS - fitted to pull the D3 out of the sand - and used for that purpose!!! Engel 45L fridge Maggi Roof tent Patriot Rack TB CF18 carried 10L jerry can we went as a convoy i ran std suspension, the shocks were a little over worked at times and needed to cool down but no other problems. If a RAI was easily removable and left no trace i would of had one of those too. If you ordered one for post Jul i would make sure its a 11MY version. Good spot. How do I know what model year it is? I will be taking the chassie number and get a garage back home to check it out on the computer, but would rather now how to tell the difference when I see it on friday. With regards to the prep of the vehicle, as I will have a little extra money kicking around I was looking at trying the terrafirma big bore shock with medium load springs at the front and heavies at the back (+2" or standards hasn't been decided yet). The southdown front axle guard, is it the skid plate type they make that sits the width of the axle??? If so any problems? I want to get a steering guard fitted pritty sharpish becasue I'm going to have a go at designing my own winch bumper with frontal protection, good approch angles, strength & all the usual jacking & lashing points for various bits of kit. |

yes the Southdown one is a full width jobbie that does the diff and track rod. it can be fitted with ARBs but its not the easiest.
Pros - very sturdy and will take knocks, protects the diff and the track rod, if you hit things hard you dont have to be too concerned. Cons - can act as a suction plate in deep mud and some would argue loss of gnd clearance which is true but the effect is minimal. Just noticed this. I was just helping you justify the expense of the winch and bumper. If it wasn't for me it wouldn't of been used and as such an expense wasted 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

I can see what you mean about the suction plate. TBH I'D rather have a small suction plate and a factional loss of ground clearence over a bent track rod. |

2 friends I have - one carries a spare trackrod when he goes off and the other has the HD version.
Both seem very happy, although the first on the one time he bent it, we we found a ditch put the defender over it and pulled it straight on the vehicle - that one was then used for 40,000 and i think its still in use. The cost over all...my winch Mike |

Just been and inspected my new 110. No problems to report but the 11MY has allterrain tyres and not general grabbers!!!
I'll post some pick when I get back to norfolk (only now leaving Stirling 15:30) so you'll have to wait a bit. |
