Work fine at 70. Hits the screen only 3 or 4 inches lower than when stationary

Heated jets now completed, adjusted and working great.
Thanks again Consumerize, worthwhile mod. On the old 90, I have two washer pumps on the reservoir and since I don't use the rear (second) one, I've rewired it to work in tandem with the front one. Loads of water now - and hitting the windscreen in the right place. What a difference. Not quite the same position as yours but just as effective. See photo below... hopefully! I've done the cheap option:
£4.80 - 5 metres of 4mm tube.. Marginally warmer output.. I'm sure it will help in -15 temps but overall, not any worthy noticeable difference. |

Away back when I had my Series 3 I seem to remember one of the mags did a small feature with details of how to fit a coil of copper pipe around the exhaust to heat your washer water, been trying to find the write up without success 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

I could have done with some form of heated washer jets on the way home from work today.
Nozzles frozen up despite a fairly concentrated mix of washer fluid in the reservoir. Lots of salt water mist from the road, but not enough to dampen the screen to the point where the wipers could clear the screen. So I ended up peering through a greyed out windscreen on the motorway. Like driving in thick fog. In the end at the earliest opportunity, I threw half a bottle of diet coke on the screen whilst in a traffic queue I dread to think what that will have done to the windscreen frame and brackets!!! I'm sure the flat glass plays a big part in building up muck on the windscreen. Do you think these heater devices will be effective without heated nozzles? Or will the nozzles freeze anyway, thus preventing the hot water from flowing through? |

I can't see any reason to suppose that any device that heats the fluid would stop the jet from freezing. I think what is needed is an electrically heated jet, which many vehicles now have.

I'm using the low temp stuff neat which seems to be doing the trick and not freezing.

I've had one of those on my mini for years. It's pretty effective to be honest, good a shifting bugs in the summer too. But as said above using decent winter or all season screen wash (which contains antifreeze) works fine. The initial heated jets at the beginning of the post may well be used on the Range Rover Sport , but they're the same as the MK3 Mondeo ones. On most cars they're simply powered all the time the ignition is on. |
