I am hoping most are going to another distributor however I am sure I can find a few sets at a reasonable price.

Consumerize, thanks for the write up. Looks like a sensible, low cost mod.
I've just ordered the parts and will be fitting the gear as soon as it arrives. cheers LRmud |

Glad it helps.
One thing you need to do, if you have opted for the thermostatic switch mentioned is set the switch for Heating, rather than Cooling, so it clicks on when its at low temp, rather than high temp. by default its set to Cooling. simple change in the settings, if you can interpret the loosely translated Chinese to English instructions. |

I picked up a brand new Heatshot (mid-summer) for around £100, the dealer said he couldn't shift them during the summer so he dropped price and went back up during winter months where the demand was higher, bought about 2yrs ago, great mod even though, if my washer mix is weak the nozzles freeze which is a bit of a b*gger Optimists say the glass is half full..
Pessimists say the glass is half empty.. Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be! |

I've used the Hotshot and you still need to get it close to the washer jets, because if the pipes beyond are frozen it can be difficult to clear, although it will work its way along eventually.
I've put my hand in front of the jets hitting the windscreen and it's hot water certainly not 60C. The AlphaTherm AT-38OD is the same thing and about £60 in the US, I ordered one from amazon.com and it cost about £13 import duty. |

Consumerize, I'm looking to position the jets on the bonnet, do you have any measurements?
I would PM you but the info might be useful to others. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1989 Defender 90 Toyota Aygo & Honda FR-V |

Hi LRmud
Below is a picture of the position of my jets, with measurements (excuse mud splats). From Front of bonnet to front of Jet 26cm From left / right edge of bonnet to centre of jet - 25cm. Click image to enlarge I would suggest putting them about 1cm nearer the window, as where i put them went just over the re-enforcing panel under the bonnet, making it a pain to cut the hole. You may want to just plumb one in initially and hold in that position while someone pushes the washer button. make sure your pump is up to the job. Halford sell two sizes of pipe, I used the thinner one. You have to heat the tube up on the end so it goes a bit soft to fit over the jet nozzle. I used the rubber washer on the bottom of the jet as an an initial template, cutting the hole smaller and filing away til it slotted in. the slot for the clip at the rear being narrower,as below: Click image to enlarge I'd measure the hole for you but they are clipped in so firm now I suspect id break something getting them back out. I had to cut approx. 1mm off the top of the retaining clip to get it to click into place under the bonnet. I would also suggest masking off the surrounding paintwork with tape, in case you slip with the drill / file. |

Nice mod
Is there any adjustment in the nozzles so they can be mounted closer to the windscreen? 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X |

Cheers for the info, just what I need. I'll get the drill out later today.
I've got a fibreglass bonnet so drilling holes should be easy enough. I may have to trim a bit more than 1mm off the clips though as the fibreglass is probably thicker than a standard bonnet. I've made a template already with a piece of plastic sheet so it should be fairly straightforward to mark up. There appears to be no adjustment on the jets themselves which I thought was a bit of a shame. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1989 Defender 90 Toyota Aygo & Honda FR-V |

The jets do adjust, they are just extremely stiff. I tried with the usual safety pin, but wouldn't budge.
if you put a small flat screwdriver blade under them and lever it a bit, there is actually a good bit of movement. Mine are set about 3/4 up. They could probably be set close to the screen than i have them, but id guess about half way along the bonnet would be max to get the elevation of the jet to still hit the windscreen high enough. The disadvantage of putting them closer I though was id probably have to take the bonnet off to be able to reach to drill the holes. Didn't fancy my chances doing that on my own. |
