Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge OK, I'm almost too embarrassed to ask but since I re purchased my 98 tdi, the previous owner confessed that he'd lost the spare wheel nuts when he was having some work done on the rear door. I've just picked up some nuts, 3 like normal wheel nuts and 3 smaller open ended steel nuts that act as spacers I'm told. however, when I mount the wheel on the carrier and use just the normal wheel nuts, theres too much thread to clamp the wheel. The smaller nuts have a tapered end but they seem too small a diameter to use on the wheel without damaging the alloy as it tightens down. what am i doing wrong or have i got something missing? wind the 3 mounting disks out untill the wheel is secured by the alloy wheel nuts on the outside. They should just undo and wind outwards so the wheel sits further out.
You might have to do it a couple of times to get it perfect. Hope this helps |

Sorted!
Many thanks for the quick replies I didn't think it looked right winding the adjusters so far along the threads but as said, that is how it is! Anyway, spare securely fastened now, happy days. Cheers Mike |
