Had new caliper and pads fitted.
Only done a few miles since but ran perfect on return as it did there. Will be braking cautiously for the next few miles but likely to be doing c500 miles this week so can hopefully report back some good news. Did the guy with odd brakes simply have different aged calipers or different models? If all goes well and def continues to run well I might be looking to upgrade both the go and stop performance |

it's remotely possible 'someone' did something they didn't know what they were doing
anyhow one new caliper fitted and as you've probably already guessed I'm happy to trial it.....as ever I'll adopt the 'suck it and see approach'......after all it's only the brakes - what could possibly go wrong? its the loud pedal that can cause the problems. ps. Happy New Year to you all and safe motoring |

The circumstances of the unfortunate accident in which several children were killed are easily found on the net and were widely discussed on the various forums that existed at the time and subsequently, consequently I personally see no need to rehash it all when it's already all out there. The driver and owner of the vehicle concerned was well known on several forums. Steve.

Sorry Steve you're right.
I often forget there's odd person out there that can go prove to be more inept than myself and as such I should refrain from such jokes. Furtheremore I might read this post next week having fully forgotten that I was joking..... Last edited by Caterham on 12th Jan 2015 6:46pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Hi All,
Just a question, I recently replaced the front brake pads and they came with wire spring thingies, since the guy who was doing the install was having a difficult time putting them on, he said that I didn't need them anyways and could leave them out, I saved them though, can anyone tell me what these spring thingies are for? I don't seem to recall the rear brake pads have them. Also, I have uneven wear on the left front disc (rotor), one side of the rotor is a bit thinner than the other. Any ideas how that happened? The right one seemed OK. |

The springs are to stop the pads rattling in the caliper and when your window is open in summer and you hit bumps or potholes the noise will drive you mad so best to get them fitted.

I'd find another garage,if you can tie your own shoelaces you can fit the pad retaining springs . Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5. |

From about 500km the brake rattle started. Dealer replaced the rear callipers at 2500km and the brake rattle has gone....for now. I suspect that some are not machined properly at the factory and there is probably a bad batch or two floating around.
