Loose steering column cowling
Just had my 90 serviced, all clear bar they noticed the steering column cowling was loose and mentioned it.
I've known about it myself for a while but causes no problems what so ever so never been worried.
As far as I'm aware no fixings are loose at all and it hasn't been tampered with.
Anyone know why this most likely is with out having to dismantle completely?
Not too worried as it doesn't cause a problem, just that it shouldn't be loose.

IIRC the cowl screws at least partly to a metal plate which forms part of the indicator switch assembly. Is the indicator switch loose as well?

If not, then I suspect that the most likely reason is that one or more screw is not fully home or is cross-threaded.

The cowl should not be loose, and although it probably won't do any harm I would still be inclined to try to find out why it is.

I think I'll investigate, nothing else is loose (inc the indicator switch assy)
Just the cowling its self.

Or it's been over tightened and broken the thin bit of plastic that the screw head sits against

Could be, I haven't tightened it myself or the previous owner but of course I can't guarantee it.
I'd imagine it's been left since the factory.

Could be like mine where the screw underneath is tight but the plastic around it is broken and I believe that is the only fixing that aligns it the rest of the fixings are just to join the two halves.

I wouldn't be surprised if a replacement costs a fortune no doubt.

I can get mine to either look as if it is put together right but is loose, OR is tight but one side is badly fitted together. I can always get all but one screw in whatever order I put them in. Its a Defender eccentricity manifestation thing I thinK!!! Rolling Eyes There is nothing broken though, so it might be worth playing about with
