Clutch slave cylinder
Went out to the car this morning to see a nice puddle of oily fluid underneath. When I checked underneath the oil was dripping out of the hole in the bell housing.

Used the car yesterday and no indication at all this was going to happen. On my TD5 the clutch gradually worsened until I convinced the dealer to replace the master/slave bit instead of topping up with brake fluid.

Not ready to tackle the removal of gear/transfer box here in the carport by myself without proper support.

Called the nearest dealer (in Penang) and they will (hopefully) fix it under warranty (2011 car but locally assembled/registered last week December 2012) but up to me to get the car to them. Kind of a problem since I have to find a flatbed tow to get the car on the ferry and from there to the dealer. Also will have to get to a place where they can pick it up. We live on a narrow/steep hilly road where the tow will not be able to come. Guess I will have to fill clutch reservoir with DOT4 and keep fingers crossed it lasts long enough to get the car to the main road.

Hope this is a one-time occurrence! Thought they had their clutch master/slave nonsense fixed. Only 22,000 Km on the clock and almost no city traffic.

Hi,

I just drove my Defender -08 (44000kms on the clock) to the workshop because slave cylinder started to leak. Not nice. The replacment part is not very expensive, but it takes some mount of work. The clutch will be rplaced too, even though it works, it is still original. A pessimist is just a badly informed optimist

Hi Artturi, arranged for the truck to be picked up tomorrow 9:00 am, should be at garage Monday afternoon. Will see what they have to say. At least they already ordered the spare parts they need. (Bit of a surprise that)

Cheers! Stephan

Got the truck back about 10 days ago.
Took almost 5 weeks to get the repair done - waiting for spare parts thing.

Whole thing done on warranty, garage replaced clutch master and slave cylinder. Also had a lot of small things sorted while they had the car sitting around.

Yesterday .... clutch gone again.

This time clutch master leaking DOT4 ... faulty part.

Not too happy at the moment.

Frustrating indeed ... but what to do?

The dealer did replace both slave and master, but as far as I can make out the master cylinder had a weak point and developed a crack at the underside after about 500 kms. The oil seeps out and runs over the bulkhead.

Since it is such a hassle to get the car from this island to Penang, the dealer agreed to send me a replacement part so a local mechanic can install it.

Wonder how long it will take for the spare part to arrive here ...

Cheers

Stephan

Got the truck back ... the new clutch master cylinder installed. Hope this is it ... since 18th of August only had use of the car for about 10 days...

Wife grumbling and talking about reliability of the Isuzu D-max her friend has ...

Good thing this didn't happen in the middle of nowhere ... for the next couple of weeks there will be a container of DOT4 in the car, just in case ...
