2.4's from October 2010 are £220 p.a, same as the 2.2's - prior to this the 2.4's were £480 ish p.a.

2.4 double cabs plus certain other bodystyles have always been in the N1 VED classification hence the lower rate of tax.

Since Oct 2010 all Defenders irrespective of body style have been Euro "N"-class type approved, and consequently are "N1" VED class.
A spin-off benefit is that towing equipment on these doesn't need to be type-approved so receiver hitches and/or NATO pintles are legal. Technically it is illegal to tow a Sankey using a NATO pintle/lunette coupling with an M1 Defender (or of course a Disco, etc). |
