Not for me it isn't! Been on the 10mm one for a couple of months now and not been anywhere near 19mm for about 6 months or so. Admittedly I have had one P1103 code that I cleared with the 10mm but not had a reoccurence of the code since (about 3-4 weeks)! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Amos, The EGR valve allows exhaust gasses to be mixed with your engines inlet air. The valve controls how much and when, we would prefer none at all and therefore try to restrict the flow by fitting a blanking plate. Unfortunately we cannot yet blank it entirely as it causes a warning light to show on the dashboard, so we are collectively trying various hole sizes drilled in the plate to allow enough air through to kid the system that all is well. Our finding is that not all Pumas are alike, some get away with a 10mm hole others have to go to almost twice that size before the light stays off. Hope this helps?

But what does it do for my life, does it make the truck go faster, more MPG etc....! If it is not important, then why doesn't Landrover remove it....! |

It's all about emissions and improving stability at low revs. People don't like the method as the EGR re-circulates sooty oily gases into the induction system that can fowl the TMAF sensor and the sooty deposits can eventually clog up the EGR valve itself that then results in sticking. This system only comes into play during light throttle/tick over situations. If it wasn't for the way the ECM monitors it people would junk the whole lot and do without it. Some have demonstrated that restricting flow at the EGR valve has improved economy/performance - I'll sit on the fence until someone finds a patch for the ECM to inhibit the damn thing! |

EGR valve EDR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation
+ive for the environment Its there to allow exhaust gasses back into the engine. The nasty hot gasses get re burnt and in doing so this reduces the noxious emissions coming out of the exhaust. The valve opens and closes various amounts that’s controlled by the engine management system. Basically at tick over it should be open, on full power it should be closed. When on full power its closed no "spent gasses" get into the combustion chamber, the engine gets nice clean fresh air and provides lots of power Earlier engines the EGR valves were controlled via a mechanical device or a very basic engine management system. In this instance the valve could be blanked off stopping the nasty gasses going through the combustion process, this was great as the engine always had nice fresh air to breath and the engine management system had no idea what was going on, however the modern engines have flow sensors in the EGR system so when we blank the EGR on a Puma the sensor throws a warning light on the dash. This is what this thread is all about, we are trying to reduce the amount of spent exhaust gasses getting into the engine by fitting a blank plate with a hole in it but not restrict the flow too much, thus allowing the sensor to throw a warning light. Those that have fault code readers that can clear the faults simply clear the faults, those that dont have to take the car to the dealers. Again this is what this thread is discussing. Whats the smallest hole you can fit without the system throwing a fault. Not really, if it is a problem....! Then why do Landrover use it..... Thet don't put thing in engines, so the owner can block it up 2 weeks latter.... |

Yes it did and as you mentioned some people are able to read and reset! I have the capability of resetting it without taking it to the dealers! Nevertheless the 12, 14, 16mm plates I fitted (think I started at 16? Maybe even 18mm) didn't throw any faults at all!
