Successfully connected the BAS remap tool and cleared down the errors just as explained - very easy indeed, will let you know if the light comes on again, if it does then I will move on up to the next size, 14mm I believe.

50 miles later and the light is lit once more, looks like my Puma needs a bigger hole! Time to hug my engine again!!

BigFog,
I also had the same sometime ago turned out it was my EGR valve itself that was knackered. May be worth just running without a blank for 50 miles or so just to prove servicability of your EGR perhaps??? They are notoriously unreliable and temperamental! Or just go bigger and try it as you suggest. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Thanks K9F, you may well have a point there, does anyone know why the Puma cannot take the normal bypass/delete kit offered to all other variants? I just hate the idea of pumping any exhaust gasses into my engine, isn't that why they fit exhaust pipes to the back of cars??

Dropped Down to the 10mil plate 12 days ago and drove to Andorra and back, seems the the 10mil plate had a dislike for the outskirts of Paris!!!!
Out ward journey just near Paris the engine light came on .... ! Cleared the codes with the trusty BAS box and off I went again no problems for another 6 days.......spookily.....on the way back....similar location outside Paris the light came on again!!!!!!! Same process....cleared the codes and continued on without any further issues. Apparently the truck loved Andorra and would like to live there but clearly stated that she did not want to move to Paris So were home and happy in wet Northumberland:-) Puma 2.2 90 Stationwagon |

You're welcome! If the EGR Valve on the Puma is totally blanked you will have a permanent MIL light due to mass air flow! People have done it but it is personal choice. If you drive with a permanent MIL light this could potentially mask a more serious problem should it arise! There are several people currently working on devising an EGR deletion kit for the Puma that does not illuminate the MIL light when fitted!! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Thanks K9F, I certainly don't want to drive around with the MIL light on permanently because of the risk of not being aware of other potential problems as you rightly say, but what has changed between the TD5 where you could delete the balve entirely and the Puma where we can only restrict airflow through the same valve which as you point out, may still fail?
Back up to a 14mm plate now and a word of advice to anyone changing plates - do not remove all three bolts that hold the EGR pipe in place at the back of the cylinder block, because if you do, the little black bracket falls down into an almost impossible position. I had to strip quite a few things out of the way before I could reach it and still drew blood to get it back - either undo the two lower bolts to release the pipe from the bracket, or the upper bolt alone to release the bracket from the block. |

In layman's terms the difference is that there is a Mass Air Flow Sensor in the line that when you blank off the EGR Valve the sensor does what it says on the tin and senses that the MAF is out of tolerances and throws up the MIL light. Electrically disconnecting or attempting to short circuit the sensor does the same thing I believe! Someone 'in the know' may be able to elaborate further if you need! Done about 2000 miles on the 14mm plate and all of a sudden the MIL light has come on, I'm beginning to think the mass airflow sensor needs a clean and all will be alright? Will give it a go at the weekend with any luck and report back.
