Got that, I was aware of this info. But my question still is, if you use a blanking plate with a smaller hole than the one it covers, will the smaller hole not clog quicker than the larger area it covers because you are forcing the same amont of stuff through it as used to go through the larger area?
I am not convinced of the efficacy of the EGR system per se in the diesel engine setup. Fair enough the emissions maybe be slightly cleaner than without it, but the fuel consumption is up. This seems a retrograde step. If you consider all the EGR engines doing less miles per gallon, that is a lot of fuel being burnt that could be used to get us all travelling further. It is all very well to say that this new engine is more environmentally friendly owing to lower emissions but it is not very environmentally friendly to be burning more fuel. Maybe I am trying to square a circle but it does seem like common sense has gone out the window. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

The EGR valve recirculates 'particulate' airborne particles, the diameter of the smallest orifice of the blanks is 10mm therefore there is no danger whatsoever of it getting clogged! Read the thread the results speak for themselves and the original pictures posted show clearly how the blank works! It's down to personal choice, if you're not happy or your conscience is getting one over on you don't fit a blank! There are ways and means of blanking the manifold side totaly and letting the egr valve have all the clean air it likes from a source which i have tryed but i have yet to make this 100% safe . (ie water and debris induction through the egr.. WORK IN PROGRESS It certainly would great if someone could help with the electronics side of this problem (BAS and pete could be the answer) Egr valves are a curse on these puma engines in many ways and need doing away with!!! 2008 110 County utility ex 1988 defender 90 ,td ex 1970 series III |

Speak of the Devil.
My EGR has started "hunting" when cold - can hear a chirping from the rear of the engine. Also when shutting down after only a few minutes running the EGR cleaning cycle sounds like a bag of loose spanners |

Been mulling this over too. Perhaps a system whereby you could temporarily stop the exhast gas feed and substitute it with a fresh air feed. This might be necessary if the vehicle had to go in for warranty work or it needed to be returned to factory spec. for m.o.t. purposes. If a tap or "T" piece could be fitted from the main air intake and a small hose fitted to that, this could be routed to the egr and another tap or "t" piece fitted to take this connection into the pipe taking the exhaust gases to the egr. The exhaust gas could be stopped above this "T" piece or vented depending on how best to fool the sensors. It sounds complicated but there has to be a way of substituting air for the exhaust gas. Look on it as a plumbing problem. Don't know how the sensors would handle the change. Is there a sensor that monitors the amount of exhaust gas being used before it hits the egr? I am sure given the right pieces og tubing someone will crack this. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Here are a few pics so you can see were i am upto . The next bit is to pipe clean safe air to this void that can easly fitted and put back to original format for dealer vists!!.

I have tested this gap size for a while and it is enough. Just need to make it safe. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated 2008 110 County utility ex 1988 defender 90 ,td ex 1970 series III Last edited by Robofarmer on 2nd Aug 2010 10:21pm. ok nice one robo is the light coming on though
i was thinking along those line but a machined peice about 10mm thick with a hole drilled with a union of to a breather or sonething ? using a blanking plate to block the manifold altho you would havt to only use th manifold bolts to hold the egr on without a supporting bolt im shure it wont hurt ? steve any one got down to the 10mm hole yet 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |
