EGR, or possibly a common rail pressure issue, perhaps VCV or pressure limiting valve.
The fault should be apparent from stored DTCs. If there are no DTCs, I'd suspect the VCV. |

Was still doing it last night from being parked up all day, then a few miles up the road driving ok, this morning clanking away and surging, still getting the chukka chukka after switch off, funny enough its been in before for running rough dealer said it may be possible vcv, though found no errors. Anyway its booked in next week and seems to be constant so should be easy to diagnose now. Could I disconnect the EGR ?

It is rare to get DTCs from a faulty VCV. Usually it is the presence of symptoms in the absence of any DTCs that indicates the VCV is malfunctioning. I'd fit a new one.

Defender has been at the dealers for first MOT and to resolve this problem, on investigation no DTC's logged and all running as it should though making clattering noise from cold, so ECU software upgraded and injector learn ran, and seems to be running fine now, anyway I'm happy again

Not sure if anything was checked like this,
Just a few quick questions though, I have had some warranty work carried out over the last 3 years, for example I had a new clutch fitted (3rd one ) earlier this year, now my warranty expires in a couple of weeks what length of warranty do LR give on parts fitted under warranty ? say if my clutch failed next month would LR honour replacement? Also as a customer can I ask for a listed copy of all work / software updates carried out under warranty, basically for my records, and to pass on if I ever sold vehicle? Cheers |
