If it were possible, who would like to have an indicator light which tells you when the DPF regen is taking place?

The standard light indicates that the filter is almost full, not that 1 regen has not completed.

Didn't say it was. The amber light means that the DPF is nearly full, due to not successfully regenerating by active and passive means. This is the only time you really do need to keep driving until the light is extinguished.

Whilst it makes sense to keep driving if you're in the middle of an active regen you don't have to. The ECU will request regeneration next time the conditions for regeneration are met.

The workshop manual says that regeneration typically occurs every 250 miles, which is very frequent and one of the reasons fuel economy is not great. The DPF is also massive and right on the exhaust manifold, so it's likely that passive regeneration is going to keep it pretty clean.

How many problems have there been with blocked DPFs or oil dilution with Defenders?

Re alight, though I appreciate their can be many varients of trying to add a light to the car its probabally possibile that you can pick up from the CAN one of its messgaes for either the DPF or EGR postion during the dpf regen cycle. Inject that into a CAN node and re out put it to flash the mil lightevery 1 second during a regen or simlar.

Or limit torque or rpm during a regen so the driver will feel that its doing a regen, many many ways but all take time i think for possibily little gain to the car overall.

Their as Alive said is not a lot in the engine ecu that is related to the dpf and lamp enablement especially for out putting it to a seperate lamp of the car so id assume without looking further and deeper it will be to be some in the middle compremise of notification somehow for the driver.

Hi all. Been having a think on this. Is it something a Scangage could be programmed to monitor?

Regards Myn. Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

Dunno. I just want a simple LED in the dash to tell me.

Daft as it sounds could the power that feeds the DPF itself be just tapped into to supply a positive to a LED? I am an auto electrical numpty by the way - haven't got a clue but would like to have the light telling me if it's possible. 110 Hardtop

That's what I was thinking too. No know nothing about 'code', a bit of solder and a LED is my limit!

Or if not as simple as above - a temperature sensor of some sort - the temperature rise should be enough (above a certain temperature) to be indicative of attempted regen.

A ctrl light would be great for longer off-road trips.
Most of the short distance pilots are presumably animated to start collecting bonus miles Very Happy

I suppose that shorter oil change intervals are the best idea for futher investments into that "DPF thing". Idea

But I must say that after about 15k km there have not been any issues with that DPF. I suppose it would be clever to clean the DPF with grill cleaner after about 50k km, wouldn't it? Thumbs Up Milestone Milestone
