Is there any alternative option to a machine shop skim?

Mine blowing and have already fitted the Nak exhaust gasket, but it's gone again. I have a holiday planned and the land rover show to attend, so am really really tight on time and guess a machine shop will require turbo for a couple of days.

Any thoughts?

You could take the manifold off and so it manually old school with a flat file but it's a boring task. You possibily could also but a very fine layer or dealer on the gasket to help it re seal.

How is your air intake system ? Restricted ?or your intercooler and inlet manifold as well as exhaust and cat come to think of it.

Pete.

May have to go old school then.

I'm running safari snork, uprated intercooler, and standard exhaust. I am thinking that a large part of the problem is the cat restricting flow, any thoughts?

Am I correct in thinking that once machined flat/filed sweated sworn removed nuckles flat, that it will ok for ever after? Like the td5 manifolds were?

I don't mind the fact it's warped, it's just the bloody timing of it Big Cry Big Cry

The casting is quite soft, it doesn't take long by hand with a file.

Don't think it goes high enough heat. Exhaust manifold would get to 500-600 degrees + I would guess.

Defintely! A Cat strangles the engine. It 'was' the cheapest upgrade with immediate noticeable performance enhancement you could carry out for the money. Turbo spools up quicker giving you accelerated toque at lower rpm. Well worth the time involved to do in my opinion. Nevertheless for current legislation at MOT time a visual check is carried out to ensure a CAT is present (or the check should be carried out but often overlooked).

Can't decide between. Smash out internals of existing cat, or get a decat down pipe. Keeping original incase. I'm concerned that rules may change to test if cat is working not just visible. Although my mot test man said when questioned "if it's remapped, it's not a standard engine, so cat not required".

Rolling with laughter Not the brightest button in the basket then? There are obviously several 'ways to a means' with this. I sold my Cat ages ago and the rules then subsequently changed so I had to 'adapt' as I had a stainless system using the decat pipe.

Personally for the very reasons you stated I would retain the original Cat in one piece and find another route should you wish to proceed. By the sound of it with your tester you may well just fit a decat perhaps? Down to Personal Choice...... If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

That look the mutts Mal Thumbs Up

Glad you got something Andy, I have a favourites tab full of potions and lotions we have used over the years doing jobs on the comp safari cars, its amazing how the standard items from Halfrauds don't hold up to the rigours of racing and end up costing you a finish!! 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon
