not yet, is it the connector at the rear of the rail?

you may have to remove the whole rail as they can be bl@@dy tight

This just still does sound like the VCV failing and not the valve on the end of the rail.

I would go along with that , I think if the rail valve fails there hard to start

The VCV is fitted in the rear face of the fuel pump and is easy enough to change (15 mins). You'll need to do a pump relearn with Faultmate or a similar diagnostic tool afterwards.

The vcv on the back of the pump is the same one as used on the 2.4 transit also for sure.

Hi
Yes fit a new one and do a pump learn, you can also do a learn on the old one as well it sometimes helps. my advise is make sure the car is HOT and fully up to temprature before you start.. Pilot correction can be done after a pump learn also if you wish. do remember these are theprocesses that FILL the ecu data space so my advise is only do what you need and dont just play for the sake of it. pete |

Thnks Pete, i disconnected the electrical connector to the turbo actuator and went for a drive as there was only about 15 degrees of of movement in the actuator arm as my friend revved the engine.
the engine had very little power as expected (identical to when the car first went bad as in my first post) the clacking noise on a light throttle in 5th or sixth at 2300 rpm was almost gone, ie if you didnt know what to listen for it was non existant, i did think it became very thirsty as the needle had visibly moved on a ten minute journey but this could be anecdotal and i was giving it full throttle to get up to speed. So, something still not right, fuelling, turbo, both.?? one thing i havent mentioned is there is a quite loud induction whoosh as the turbo comes in, im not sure its normal as i havent driven another puma but it does seem a bit loud, could a split pipe give me these symptoms? i really appreciate all the replies everybody thanks. Hopefully others will gain from this thread too! |

have you checked the wiring to the turbo ? this fails as it is tight in the engine bay

Update, got SDD 138 working, have an turbo actuator arm error?? am going to investigate more. Also did a diesel leak off test, got about 110ml after 3 mins variable engine speed but all injectors produce about the same sp probably ok. have done a rail fuel pressure test and is ok. have done a dynamic egr and air path test and came back with a bit of a fault, only at idle (possibly related to the actuator arm)
some diesel around the top of the engine where the injector sits, possible blow by. have tried a pilot learn test but it always fails after a minute or so with a 0x50 "exited due to in start mode" report?? anyone have an idea what this means? so next i have ordered some new copper injector gaskets and i will clean and refit the injectors with the new gaskets. i will also try to upgrade the pcm software but havent been able to yet as i need a battery charger to maintain 13.5v. Any advice on how to do this in SDD would be great. I will check the REA and actuator arm for movement. i will then try relearn pump and pilot. defo think it is fueling causing the knock. When doing the fuel rail pressure test there is no rattle at 2000rpm until 100mbar is called for and delivered (can see it on live data) then the rattle is more noticeable. i will keep you posted with my results so hopefully this can be useful to others. thanks |
