There seems to a trend developing here - my 2.2 is only three months old and has the same problem that others describe. http://defender2.net/forum/topic21205.html http://defender2.net/forum/topic21191.html Would LR like to comment, especially what is the Q225 TSB and which vehicles does it apply to ? Hello to you both,
Q225 relates to certain 2012 Model Year Defenders. If you or anyone else is experiencing this sort of thing then I suggest you book your vehicle in with your local Land Rover dealership. If you would like me to see if your vehicle is affected by Q225 then just PM me your VIN number and I can look for you. As far as I am aware the temperature shouldn't affect this. Many Thanks Mike |

Not really related to this thread and a little off track so apologies in advance..... Stu with my 2.4 I can relate to a change in engine performance with regards to ambient temperature and it was frustrating to say the least. Above 16 degrees my Defender used to suffer from overboost conditions (similar to fuel shut off momentarily switching on and off) at higher speeds but when the temperature was below 16 degrees it ran sweet as a nut. Sorted now though. But that was down to ECU programming so it would be worth checking on the Q225 recall. It'll be free and no it won't drive like a Ferrari or Porsche afterwards.....but may sort your issue out hopefully! Just driven the 90 for the past hour and no problems and in traffic also, just gave it some so to speak , spoke to LR and Mine has the current SW already

Did you get an overboost fault logged in the ECU when this happened? When my 2.4 was doing something very similar it never logged any faults, persisted or otherwise! |

Blackwolf no faults logged. Another remap installed and fault no longer exists. Problems only started after Q068 upgrade and it's incompatability with an Autologic map. Ancient history thankfully but it was temperature and ECU related.

Interesting. May I ask how you know it was overboosting?
Mine started some while after installing the original BAS map, but remained unaltered if the original (factory) map was reinstalled, which made me think that it was a sensor malfunction or something of that nature (poss TPS malfunction, since this caused similar symptoms on my Disco 2 some years ago). However absolutely no faults of any kind either persisterd or otherwise were being logged, which I would have expected with a faulty sensor! Makes it hard to diagnose! The sympstoms disappeared completely after installing the most recent BAS map, which has had other unexpected benefits (such as a whopping 10% improvement in MPG, as well as making the engine much quieter) as well as making the vehicle much nicer to drive. All in all I am puzzled by the phenomenon since the fact that it was unaltered by changing between the first two maps suggested that it wasn't ECU-related whilst its diappearance with the third map suggests that it is. Strange! |

I used to have an Autologic map that was rendered 'incompatable' after the Q068 upgrade a couple of years ago. As you know the Autologic map was a generic map for standard vehicles with no upgrades or tweaks available. After Autologic sorted out the issues with Q068 I was invited to Oxfordshire to have the new version installed. On the day and on test runs the vehicle was overboosting quite horrendously. I am not aware of the intracacies of what they actually did but as was explained to me they 'shaved off' the top end of the map to prevent the overboosting symptoms. I thought they had it sorted but the map never really ran the same afterwards and when the ambient temperature got above 16 degrees (also at about 90mph on a private road whilst wearing a fire retardant suit, crash helmet and any other safety gear people would wish me to wear) the overboost symptoms would return (almost the same symptoms as hitting the old speed limiter). With various other ensuing modifications such as CAT and backbox removal etc. the symptoms didn't get any worse but obviously I wasn't going to be making things any better. In colder temperatures the Defender would just keep pulling and ran quite well. It is now at long last sorted thankfully the same way as yours by the sound of it, with a subsequent remap swapout! At the time of my incompatability issues I received a lot of help and advice from Pete (more than Autologic initially) despite the fact he was under no obligation to offer it, for which I have been always grateful. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I have at last ventured down the path I should perhaps have travelled three - four years ago?
