I have had this Defender for a month. Its a 110 TD5 2004 LHD.
Water (about 5cl?) comes out at the top of driver door near A-frame. From between the inner roof and the plastic seal (not rubber door seal). It also comes out on the outside above the rubber door seal. It only comes out when I reverse or corner sharply. The leak only occurs when it has been parked over night. Never while driving in rain. I have studied the water ingress manual but fail to understand where the water enters or where it collects. Any ideas? /Hans |

Defenders will leak - it's in their nature. You will be far happier if you just accept it and mop it up. With the construction and design used water leaks are inevitable.
In my old work 110 I had to keep a folder handy to deflect the water from the sunroof from landing on my head when leaving the yard - that was why I had waterproof seat covers! |

Would it not have been better to have waterproof head protection? No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Probably leaking from the sunroof or alpine windows. It collects in the inner roof gutter and flows out wetting your knee when braking or sharp cornering. Guess how I know? Cheers, Vincent

It only happened once a trip - no justification for a waterproof hat

No sun roof fitted and I have checked the inside gutter through the alpine window and it seems to be bone dry. Only dust... Can water follow the inner roof from alpine window all the way to front door?
So far I have ruled out condensation because of the amount of water. /Hans |

I will tape up the alpine window seal before next rain to test if this is the problem. Thanks.

This might come in handy: Water Ingress Manual, see Process No. 2.5

Yes VeeTee, this is about where the water comes out. But I want to know where it goes in as it happens when the vehicle is stationary.

Might be worth a look at whether you have a leak from the feed pipe to the rear wash wipe, yours is a left hand drive and the washer pipe runs (IIRC) in the channel where the roof meets the sides on the near side.

also check,
> top of windscreen, where it meets the roof > top of A pillars - should have sealant |

On mine, I found a gap where the roof drivers corner meets the A pillar. Resealed this and also resealed & replaced the Alpine window seal and applied plenty of sealant.
This caused the leak from standing. However, driving during heavy rain or parking at the wrong angle I still get water in. Looking at the roof there appears to be a bit of play (as in I can move the roof up and down a couple of mm, and I suspect as I am driving into heavy rain, the wind is pushing the roof up a little, opening the gap and allowing water in. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |
