If it's not the 5x chuka-chuka from the EGR self-cleaning, it could be the death rattle of your clutch --

Sounds like the EGR Vv also doing it on the move mainly when backing off coming up to junctions.
Is it just a clean or a replacement job required? Cheers for the advice. |

Hi Dickie
welcome to the forum its the normal self cleaning routine for the EGR valve and doesn't need any intervention from you at the moment. if it is excesive then you could try running a tank of higher quality fuel (BP ultra or simmilar) that made mine quieter for a time, or you could have a remap that will keep the EGR closed (as well as bost your driving power) Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

It is a common occurence as detailed in previous posts and links. If you don't fancy living with it or trying any of the suggestions take it to your local independant and/or dealer and seek expert advice, initially all it will cost is a little time and a little diesel.
Probably ensued by a suggestion you need a new EGR valve. You could try cleaning it if you have the inclination. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic2227.h...r+cleaning If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Hi Dickie as K9F says ... try the fuel first and then if your still worried take it to bits and see if it needs cleaning. Mine is an 07 plate with about 98k and it started scratching when cleaning after about 60k .. it never gave me any issues and I used hige quality fuel in about 1 tank in 6 that made a differance - however it's much better after a BAS remap that closed the EGR all the time (ie - silent!) There are many posts on the forum on this subject if you need more convincing - just search EGR and see what comes up! hope that helps Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |
