Do you ever find changing up from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear a bit rough, e.g. a bit hard to get into 2nd and a bit of a "kick" before it goes into 3rd? I'm trying to gather info for several members (especially me) Wink

Many thanks,
Matt

Yes I do, I found out it's a matter of changing my driving style and completely submitting to the gearbox. I read on replies to you about nudging the gear out and into the next without using the clutch, that's what I do but while using the clutch, I'll push lightly until it pops in by itself. Happens with 2nd to 3rd and back down sometimes. I don't usually use first on the road just offroad or tight steep underground parking. Oh and if the gear doesn't go in smoothly I had a few occaisons where it would pop out once I release the clutch. Good luck with getting more info from the other members, hope this helps in anyway.

Massive thank you - I am now convinced this is a normal (if crappy) feature of the run-in gearbox Rolling Eyes Probably any warranty replacement would end up being the same or worse.
So I am definitely changing to high quality oil and looking into fitting (if possible) the heavier duty Transit gearbox/clutch etc. Wink
I will sleep better now...

Thanks!
That looks very promising - it also ties in with what all the miserable Mustang owners think is wrong.
I will ambush the dealer with your post as and when the time comes Thumbs Up
i know this is a little late but on my last service i had a talk about this to the manager at the garhoud showroom and he told me that the workshop would do it and that means it doesn't affect warranty and shouldn't affect the insurance as well i suppose
Don't believe a word that Garhoud LR say! They will wiggle and squirm their way out of everything they can! They recommended that i get an uprated intercooler and chip and after i got it done by their recommended agent they invalidated my warranty! Bunch of cowboys!

Who told you to get it done?
When I had the tc switch done they told me before hand warranty on abs + tc invalidated only. I had a chip and intercooler fitted and my exhaust manifold cracked service dept claimed not under warranty as well but it was recommended by the showroom manager who I asked before hand if something goes wrong is it under warranty? He said nothing will go wrong I asked but if does he said I'm giving "my" warranty and when I told him about the problem he dealt with it and I didn't pay a dime. It's all with who you deal with SHJ service refused to send me a recovery when the defender broke down 2 kms away then refused to fix the problem or relase the car. But the managed to rip off the cover of the cubby box cut numerous wires to the rear worklight and dash lights. Like I said all depends who you deal with. Sorry you had to go through that 2012 Fuji White 110 Flattened

I think SHJ have opened a branch in Munich - it's called "Avalon Premium Cars" Sad Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Used the Defender in sand last weekend. Sand varied from firm to softish with some deeper sections on some dune faces. I had dropped tyre pressures down. TC was tempted to operate only a few times as I heard the squeel of the brakes but no TC light came on as the TC probably never fully stepped in. This was without the centre diff lock engaged.

With centre diff lock engaged, no hint of traction control operation. I will have to find some even softer sand or mud to try it out but at this stage I see no reason to disable the TC system on the truck. Seems to be calibrated well for the conditions which I have currently driven the Defender.

I was impressed with how easily the Defender handled the tracks although not particularly difficult. I am sure with the previous makes of 4X4's which I have owned that there would have been more effort involved and more gear shuffling to keep up momentum. I did not have to grab for the low range gears and the Defender just seemed to trundle along in third high all day and occasionally down to second gear if the sand deepened.

I would love to take the Defender to the Simpson Desert and give it a go. The Defender might be out of place in the local shopping centre carpark but it is in its element when the bitumen runs out.

Hi Def-00,

It was the showroom manager Mr Fadi, again i was given the same guarantees, however when it came to it, he seemed to lose his spine and back down really quickly! I am currently in discussion with LR Middle East and they are looking into it. I am truly sick and tired of Land Rovers lack of customer care, it seems that once they have your money they don't give a flying **** about you anymore. Its a real shame, but i will never, ever buy a new Land Rover again! Let someone else deal with all the warranty issues before i get the vehicle!

Regards,

Mark

Agreed Thumbs Up
To summarise my feelings: If we are generous enough to make Land Rover rich by buying their bolt-together, 1940s engineered truck, the least they can do is bloody well look after us for the first three years - wherever we are in the universe!
Good luck sorting them out.

Again I'm sorry you had to go through that. Total bulls**t. I guess I was lucky I asked him not once but twice about the warranty and in front of people and on top of that he signed a paper that had all the accessories and prices when I placed the order and the tuning and intercooler was on it as well. 2012 Fuji White 110 Flattened
