High performance A/C
Does anyone know of any high quality/performance A/C kits for the 90/110?

I have been shocked how bad the A/C is on defenders, it's not a luxury but a necessity in the UAE.

We obviously don't experience the temperatures you do but the airconditioning on my Puma is great. Older Defenders heating/airconditioning systems were notoriously irksome especially on heat. I do not know of anyone that has fitted an aftermarket one just OEM ones but you are probably best placed to find a local airconditioning servicing/fitting dealer to find out what can be done for you. I did look at a Discovery Japanese import a few years ago that had an autonamous air conditioning unit for the passengers in the rear, that may be the best and easiest route for you perhaps?. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

It does perhaps look like a viable option. You may have considered the fact that you will also need an engine mounted compressor and a condensing radiator. There are a few threads on fitting aftermarket aircon I'll have a mooch and see what I can find.

Maybe worth contacting 110 from this thread as it appears he has had experience....

Somebody else considered a conversion here:

As luck would have it they've a distributor in Dubai!

I've just sent them an email, we'll see what they come back with.

This looks pretty smart: http://www.rdac.com/sites/default/files/ca...liners.pdf

So am I right in thinking I wouldn't need a air-con pump on the engine?

I wonder if this would fit under a roof rack http://www.rdac.com/sites/default/files/catalog/Ecat/Rooftops.pdf

I Just called the supplier and both would need a compressor on the engine.

+1 for the standard (if looked after I guess) i often get condensation on the outside of the screen if I put the AC on upwards rather than at me because it comes out so cold! Cheers, David

the problem may not be the AC but the poor thermal insulation of your/our Defenders...

Two years ago I was coming back to Portugal from UK, crossing Spain in mid August, 45º C outside...inside my 110 it was a lot cooler, maybe 27º/28º, but I was still sweating!
However with the AC and fan on max, with the cold that the AC was debiting it should have been a lot cooler inside.

I noticed that the gearbox tunnel, floor and seat box were hot as hell.... And I believe that that was the main reason why the Defender wasn't cooler inside.

Instead of spending a lot of money on a new AC system, I would opt first for geting a much better insulation on my vehicle... Regards
Joao

The aircon blows warm in the UAE summer, you can't compare.

There is a saying here, if it's over 40 leave the defender at home.
