Still have ours but iPad is main use, just use XP for typing letters and photos and so on. No Guts, No Glory.

I'd keep it to be honest, if anything it will run better without the constant updates bogging it down.
If you do update I'd say update to Windows 7. Windows Vista and Windows 8 are infuriating to use. My 2 cents... |

i think ending support for XP will be the best thing to happen to Apple since the release of vista...
since vista was released apple's market share has only been going one way. Long may it continue, they're products and support and ethos is simply better. They're actually trying to build good quality stuff rather than recycling old crap with a new sticker, new desktop and new name like the crappy japanese pc makers are doing. We've just renewed three computers at FCX to run Windows 7, mind you we'd had the old ones for 6 years, the difference in speed is phenomenal !

We'll stay with XP! We run all workshop computers on it, and long may it continue! An engine to TDi for!

I binned XP as soon as I could and got 7 for the Laptop and the main home PC. Use 8.1RT on the surface and the little home PC. I find 8 a doddle to use. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

I got a Win Vista disc free with my XP laptop.
Never installed it. Stayed with XP, it's the most stable system I've ever had from Microsoft. My computing started with Win 3.0 back in the eighties. |

If you don't want to move with Microsoft, obviously don't need/want their support but still want an up to date and (more) secure OS then have you considered Linux? Plus it's free, what's not to like?

Windows XP is looking rather old and sad now, I cannot think of a single way that XP is better than 7 or 8, people need to move on. Once security updates are no longer released you have to be pretty foolhardy to continue using it.

XP is only better by virtue of being very stable and around for so long. As a consequence, people are comfortable with it and there's a huge array of compatible software. Generally, people don't want to 'move on' unless they really have to, and they hate being told that they have to. Hence the fuss about the Start button on Win 8 recently.
I moved from XP to Win 7 last year (running on a Mac, ironically) and, on the whole, it's been relatively painless. I do have a couple of programs that don't want to play though, which is a pain when the upgrade route will cost me money. At work, we'll be moving from XP to 7 in the next couple of months, too. The cost is huge though, which the organisation could do without when everything is essentially working fine as is.
