Said like a true Fan boy Win 7 is the most logical progression from XP if you remain with Microsoft, I would also not rule out another alternative OS like some that have been mentioned already. The move to another OS is very dependant on what applications you have/ use and some are more reliant on your technical ability also. 90 & Wolf 110 XS Previously owned SI SII SIIa SIII & Light weight (air portable) |

I recently updated two of my XP machines - a 12yo PC and a 10yo laptop with SSDs and Win7.
The PC had no problems going to Win7, but the laptop (a VAIO) was a bit tricky getting (and modifying) drivers, I wouldn't recommend anyone but the most patient attempt Win7 (or later) on such an old laptop - just buy a new one - but I got there in the end, and it was well worth doing! Both are running faster than they ever were, and I shall keep running them until a failure, when it will be time for new hardware. BTW - the 12yo PC is on 10+ hrs a day, 6 days a week, running CAD - it has had 2No. graphics cards and the SSD is only it's 3rd HD - not exactly Trigger's Broom - I think that's pretty good! As Laurie points out - unless you have huge data needs, an SSD is one of the best upgrades, the price has halved in less than a year, and well worth doing if you are contemplating a fresh install of an OS. |
